I think DS 5.5 would like these..

Do I buy a kit or a generic box and a peg board?
Are midi beads the best for this age?

This is as much as I have gleaned from Amazon...!!

I'd say midi beads are fine, ds3 (2) has maxi beads so he can join in too - I'm ok with him having small beads but he doesn't have fine motor skills for them yet.

If you have nothing then I'd get a kit, something with a couple of peg boards and some ideas, you can get all sorts of themed kits so I'd pick something he is interetsed in, ds's first one was a glow in dark space ship/alien mobile kit for his bed room so it gave him the idea.
ds2 likes the shaped boards of star or heart and he just makes his own patterns in that shape.

or bucket of beads and some boards and you can buy 'inspiration' books which are really good

Ikea do cheap bucket and peg boards which look good

I'd also recommend getting some stick on magnets from craft shop and some thread to hang them, for their creations too otherwise its hard to know what to do with them all!

Great that all sounds good. Also have DS2 (3.5) so be could probably play with the midi beads too
