Well this will teach me to be organised.

About 5 weeks ago I went and bought DD2 a 3DS - blue - using my nectar points and mobile phone trade in, while they were on offer with a free game and accessory pack at Argos.

Delighted with myself and my forethought.

Only now they have gone and brought a RED one out havent they, and she only wants that. I dont think it will be a huge drama on the day but you can never be sure with DD2 - and Argos wont swap it now, at least they have stopped that offer so I have saved another £30 or so. But I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I could get it change colour in the cupboard??????

I had hoped DD1 would want one and Id give her the blue one and get a red one too - but shes decided she wants a new ipod!

It would be madness to swap it unless they bring out another fantastic offer. Or if they are going for near full price new in box on ebay?

rhondajean · 01/11/2011 17:58

Oh I know Bertie - Im just hitting my head off the wall. I ended up paying £15 cash for the lot and I was so smug - if the red one had been out I would have known she would prefer that, damn Nintendo to hell and back. Shes still small enough to believe fervently in Santa and she will be so confused he brought the right present in the wrong colour - unless I can think up a cover story.

Ill check ebay - thanks for the idea.

They have probably done it on purpose - that will be why the others were on offer. The red is new so guaranteed to be wanted by lots of children, hence parents being forced to fork out full price!

BertieBotts · 01/11/2011 18:03

Make sure you check completed listings and only those after the red one's been released. The value may have dropped for the other colours if it's the new must have. It looks like they're placing it prominently in the ads >>>

You can get skins to stick on the ds. My dson has a club penguin skin and it practically covers the whole thing. Maybe you could get a ed skin or a red cover?

Ooh skins a good idea. I love this site - possibly a bit expensive though.

Ds' one cost under £5 I think off eBay. I also got a clear hardshell for a similar price to protect it.

We got DD a clear hard shell for her DSXL last Christmas! ( from e-bay)
DD has decorated the hard shell with those sticky gem stones.

You could always buy the hard shell and a pack of those sticky gem stones and let her decorate it herself. Smile

How old is your DD? If she still believes in Father Christmas would she still believe something along the lines of he has to prepare a lot of presents in advance to make sure everyone has something and so he may have already got the elves to make her presents before the new colours came out?

I had something similar with DD, who wants a blue fijit friend, except they are only available in the US, its only possible to buy the pink and purple ones over here. She has accepted my explanation that Father Christmas only has so many of each colour and so it would be better to get one in a different colour than none at all and she changed it to a pink one.

Love love LOVE the idea of the skins. If I can find a Hello Kitty one Im home and dry. I think that telling her that Santa had it all ready before Nintendo licensed him to make red ones (she understands that toys arent free even for Santa) but felt bad she would like another colour so got her a special cover to go with it - and she can change the cover if she ever decides she doesnt like it, whereas with a red one shes stuck with it, so making it even more special.

Shes just turned 7 and Im not sure if this might be the last year she really properly believes and I dont want to spoil it, DD1 will be 12 at Christmas and has been smart enough never to admit she doesnt believe in Santa any more haha so I dont really know when DD2 will suss it, but this year, shes still excited.

Thank you all, I was really at the banging the head off hte wall stage.
