Ideas for bigger gifts for my 10 yo dd.

My dd has not asked for much for Christmas and my dh's side of the family have decided to give her the things she has asked for so far (they club together to get a bigger thing).

This means my dparents have no inspiration and that dh and I also have no inspiration.

The inlaws are getting her a ipod dock as she got an ipod for her birthday.

She also already has a camera.

She still likes toys but I am wary of buying toys that will be quickly outgrown at this age - especially the bigger ticket items.

Anyone got any suggestions?

my dd1 had asked for an ipad Shock which i was going to try and save up for, but is has now decided she would rather have other things like moxie dolls and a phone that can play lots of music, she likes singing on her playstation but it has no upto date songs, so i have bought her this

i know she will love it and have also got her 2 moxie dolls, zoobles cd's for the above, handbag, purse, lip gloss etc and dp will sort out the phone but says it will be around £60. i will put money on it come next year she will just want an ipad and no toys she is 12, her auntie has bought her a dance mat. she is also humming and arring over a kindle as she has been looking at them online, but she still has birthday money for that.

The karaoke machine looks like great fun. She is not very girly but does sing a lot and has been known to be singing with her friends in her bedroom.

Maybe it's me who needs the headphones Grin

We're getting DSD (11) a kindle

Carrotsandcelery · 01/11/2011 22:12

Pelvic Grin

Angelsus I had wondered about a kindle but it didn't rest well with me and I am not sure why. I have asked for one myself afterall. Confused

I feel a bit sad at the idea of her not enjoying the art work on the cover of a novel and the whole tactile experience of reading, I think, but then she lives in a different world from me. I think that is part of my reluctance though.

It would certainly keep her room a bit tidier though Grin

Dd1 used her 10th birthday money to get herself a kindle after borrowing mine! She doesn't want anything big for Christmas - art stuff, DS games and DVDs mostly!

Carrotsandcelery · 01/11/2011 22:18

Maybe a kindle is the way to go then. It might make her feel a bit more grown up and encourage more reading.

Are many childrens books available as kindle versions?

We have a trampoline and it is one of the best gifts the dcs have received. Even the dog loves it Grin

A football goal would appeal but the dog would have caught any ball long before it got anywhere near a goal. He is fast!!

What she really wants is a pony but the budget only just stretches to the lessons. The pony is a long way off.

I think so - she has mostly had free classics so far, Black Beauty, Little Women and the such.

pramsgalore · 01/11/2011 22:33

lol, dd wants a kindle, but it turns out she don't want to spend her birthday money on one, wants me to buy it for christmas along with everything else she wants Hmm

Can you see pictures on a Kindle?

If you had a book like Diary of a Wimpy Kid would you be able to see the cartoons too?

Yes there are loads of kids books available, just go onto the kindle store on Amazon and you can have a browse.

what about a multi play games table???

www.realsports.co.uk/Games-Tables/Multiplay-Tables/BCE-4-in-1-Multiplay-Games-Table-%28M4B-1%29/

they are like 4 gifts in one - depending on the space you have of course???

hksi · 02/11/2011 17:56

I've got an almost 10 year old and today bought a box with a lid and filled it with stationary. Glue, envelopes, post it notes, cards - all from wilko at much cheapness!!
