Do your primary-age DC give cards to all the kids in their class?

Because I just remembered that we used to do this at school but no idea if it's still A Thing. DS1 is in reception so wondering if I ought to factor it into my card list...

Yes, the teachers have a class list of names ready to give out to any parents who ask.

No. DD1 chooses a few to send cards to, and writes them herself - no way could she do 30! I think some parents do the whole class and help with the writing, but I can't say I see the point. She did get more cards than the rest of the family last year though!

AngryFeet · 29/10/2011 23:08

No way. I can't be arsed to stand over 1 child making her write 30 cards and have to do the other 30 myself as DS can't write yet. I do cards for the kids they like and that's it. I don't do Xmas cards myself so am not forcing mine to do it. They do like to do them for their friends.

Not everyone, DD1 tended to send cards to a cross section of her the school she liked, were likely to send her one. DD2 will send them only to girls.
List tends to stray over class bookstore because of the complications of split and combined years spreading friendship groups.

Boundaries, bookstore??? Auto correctHmm

In reception I did for everyone, and ds wrote a few a night, luckily he was going through a phase of enjoying writing his name. I let him decorate with Christmas stamps too which made it a fun task.

I think it was more important in this year, as friendships are still being made.

Following that, his friend group was enough.

MegBusset · 29/10/2011 23:12

DS1 doesn't really have any particular friends in his class yet so if he only sends a few I'll have to pretty much pick them at random! So I think it's either all, or none...

No, I don't actually know all the names of the children in my DD2s class.

For both, we start off sending cards to friends / who they choose and then they'll respond with a card to anyone else who sends them one.

countessbabycham · 29/10/2011 23:42

I'll get a class list and do all of them.

That way I know there will be no friend/child who has sent my kids a card and not got one in return.

My kids like doing them and we pick up cheap packs of little cards in the sales.
