Thought if we all share ours we can copy each other's ideas.

Ones my dh has liked most of all:

A recipe book stand for the kitchen (kind of for me too)
A meat tenderiser (possibly the most manly bit of cooking equipment I have seen)
An engraved hip flask (this was a special present - more expensive than usual)
A nice keying - surprised by how much he liked this

Gadgets: ipod touch the year they first came out, kindle, XBox, cuff links, posh headphones, fancy flat wallet.
He can't remember any of gthem when I ask him now anyway!

Espresso machine
Harry Potter and Toy Story DVD boxed sets
Driving day at Silverstone
iPod about 8 years ago when they first came out

Damn it, we use to have money!

i once bought my first husband a cocktail shaker, that went down extremely well. Think it was the only good present I ever bought him, I was terrible at presents for him.

dh loved my present last year - a proper goretex walking cap as he used to wear an ordinary baseball cap and have sweat sliding down his face (he has to walk a lot or his health nosedives). This year I might buy him a winter version of the same cap with earpieces.

Really he wants what he wants every year - more sex! I did once consider one of those sex chequebooks but I think it would make me feel substantially less like sex than I already do if he was handing me a cheque as foreplay.

A piano. It was a significant birthday and it was something he'd always wanted. We only had a joint account so I spent months taking small cashpoint amounts out so he wouldn't notice and taking them in to the piano shop. The shop owner really loved the whole subterfuge and even deliverered it on a Saturday on his actual birthday.

I bought dh a camera last year and he was genuinely surprised and chuffed. We had been soldiering along for a few years just with phone cameras and he wasn't expecting one.

I like the Japenese knives idea......

He was pleased with the kitchen blow torch too.

wigglesrock · 29/10/2011 22:24

I bought my husband an i-pod a couple of years ago and the adaptor things for the car - probably his favourite present ever Grin A few years ago my Mum got my Dad a helicopter flight, we all a bit Hmm about it, but he absolutely loved it.

crockydoodle · 29/10/2011 22:56

A leather man tool, a kindle, tickets to a concert, sat nav

RiffRaffeta · 30/10/2011 09:45

I bought DH a compass one year which he loved, another time a mini French saw. This year I'm getting him this, and will make some appropriate joke about cracking his nuts. [hgrin]

We don't spend lots of money, generally.

DH loved the year I bought him a posh sandwich toaster/grill - he is a toasted sarnie addict so it has seen regular use. I made a whole series of presents to go with it, can't remember now if he unwrapped the pack of bake at home baguettes (for paninis) or the triangle of brie first but I enjoyed watching the conflict in his face between 'lovely dear, just what I wanted' and 'she's finally lost it'!

He wants a kindle this year, not sure it'll be as much fun to wrap

Flubba · 30/10/2011 11:47

What the feck is a "leather man tool" crockydoodle? >>dreams of making a man made of leather with such a device

ENormaSnob · 30/10/2011 12:04

A crosser motorbike.

This year it's £££££££ fishing alarms Hmm

those would be his best ever presents. I don't spend so much every year.

minsmum · 30/10/2011 12:06

When I had DS my dh & I gave up our Arsenal season tickets as we just couldn't afford them. He says his best present was when I bought him a new one when I started back at work.

peggyblackett · 30/10/2011 12:13

La Gaggia coffee machine (not entirely altruistic as I benefit from the coffee!).
A Pelikan fountain pen - we don't mentioned the Mont Blanc own from the previous Christmas that he lost Hmm.

WaitingForMe · 30/10/2011 15:19

The Kindle went down very well Grin

I generally try to plan things we can do rather than buy him stuff. He got tickets to Silverstone for his last Birthday.

wordfactory · 30/10/2011 15:40

Last year's ipad went down very well.

And tickets to concerts are always a good choice.

reastie · 31/10/2011 21:45

His expensive old man slippers went down very well Hmm

This year I'm contemplating a heated airer to dry the laundry - he honestly would like this [saddo]

worldgonemad72 · 31/10/2011 22:46

Best present i got my dh, was a night out watching ice hockey and a stay in a nice hotel without the kids. want do a similar thing this year but our free night (my mum an dad are having the children) falls on the 27th december and i cant find anything decent to do, we arn't meals out kind of people, we prefer going to a concert or game etc.Any ideas would be great, sadly it needs to be within 2 hours driving of sunny stoke on trent!

tassisssss · 31/10/2011 23:17

DH had adored his iPad that he got for his 40th. I have loved giving it to him as we really couldn't justify so it was pure treat, lovely!

He also very much likes a subscription to BBC Focus mag and I'm trying to persuade my mum that she should buy this for him again.

(need to know more about heated airers)

iskra · 01/11/2011 08:31
