DD has just started getting into ballerinas and fairies, but I don't want to go down the whole Barbie route yet

Her birthday is close to Xmas, and for that she is getting a scooter, so Xmas presents don't need to be huge. She is also getting some ballet-related stuff.

For Xmas I have ordered a DVD, a few books, a jigsaw and that shopping list game. Anything other non-princessy suggestions?

I am getting my neice the fireman Sam fire engine. She loves to play with ds fire engine when she is here!

Easel (ikea have a fairly inexpensive one)? Duplo? Cash register/wooden play food for pretend cafe/shop play? Marble run?

dd2 has just turned 4 but dd1 is almost 6 so fully exposed to barbie and disney princess but other ideas include:

oh both mine love face paints and play tents - get some good wigwams on ebay for £30 ish

I second play tents - my kids have hours of fun in theirs, mine also loves her wooden train set, building blocks, dressing up clothes, play kitchen and food, play dough, any kind of painting stuff and her chalkboard.

oh, and she is getting into Playmobile too!

my ds will be 4yrs old at christmas and would like:

furreal kitty
lightening mcqueen car (I'm thinking toy, I'm sure he's thinking actual car )

paint, playdough, moon sand (not a hope in hell), little bit of lego, zubber braclets to make, zoobles,magnifying glass, binocoulars,anything dressing up, octonauts gup, playmobil, puzzles, board games....
