just to save me madly hunting for it in dec, what do we predict being the must have toy this year.
I have started the ball rolling and am collecting from argos the last 2 monster high sleep over dolls and 2 tea cup piggies.

Well I have had a terrible time tracking down a leapfrog leappad in green, they are out of stock everywhere. Have managed to get one on ebay, but in many stores they are limiting 1 purchase per customer.

ChooChooWowWow · 25/10/2011 10:19

Yes I think the Leappad will be scarce. I need two. I'm going out to try and find them on Wednesday.

shinybaubles · 25/10/2011 10:36

When I looked yesterday Argos, Boots, John Lewis, ELC, Mothercare, and Amazon were out of stock ( Amazon had one but shipped from the US). I can only shop online at the moment maybe you will have better luck on foot.

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 12:46

Amazon say they have got 3 left in stock at the moment.

ilovedjasondonovan · 25/10/2011 12:58

I read yesterday it is going to be a new toy from the makers of the Zhu Zhu hamsters.

This time it is a crab with an interchangeable shell.
They are in america at the moment and selling at the rate of 1 every 10 seconds or something crazy.

They were going to launch them over here after Xmas but have decided to send a shipment over before Xmas after the craziness in America,.

But there are only going to be 150,000 of them, so they are expecting them to sell out fast.

Mind you, you have to believe The Sun to believe this.

Definitely leap pads, I skinted myself at last months payday to buy one each for DS1 and 2 and am really glad I did as I now know lots of people who are struggling to get hold of them.

ncjust4this · 25/10/2011 15:44

Dd has a leapad and its great. Tried to get one for dn and everywhere was out except smyths toy shop who had just had a massive. Delivery!

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 16:12

Yes I think Smyths has some but it depends what branch you go to etc. The easiest way is to click on the leap pad advert on mumsnet and it tells you all the stockists and gives links to them straightaway.

WhoWhoWhoWho · 25/10/2011 16:14

I had a real hassle getting an Octonauts Octopod Playset for ds. Hmm

I did a little dance when I got one. Blush

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 25/10/2011 16:18

whowho it's silly but you'll do anything to make their Christmas!

largeginandtonic · 25/10/2011 16:19

Tea cup piggies? Really? Will purchase soon then.

Am watching with interest. I always get caught out on something! Usually a child changing their mind at the eleventh hour!

ditavonteesed · 25/10/2011 18:39

actually the tracup piggies are rather sweet, they seemed to be sold out in a lot of places. I now want to get those crabs even though the dc have never even heard of them, wonder where they will stock the shipment hmmmm.

who who, a couple of years ago I was so giddy when my brother managed to get me some zhu zhu pets on ebay, to be fair they still love them and have collected many more.
DD1 also wants a lalaloopsy silly hair which I am struggling to find.

cant get barbie sparkles mermaids near me - going to try smyths friday!

Tolalola · 25/10/2011 21:00

Yes whowho I think Octonauts will definitely be big for the littlies. I was really pleased to get an octopod thingy for ds, too, as he's completely addicted and they seem to be sold or selling out everywhere.

AngryFeet · 26/10/2011 11:57

I just got two leappads on amazon and they seem to have more (through a seller called Botsworld so a bit more at £99 but thought it was worth it). I also got the duracell battery charger and rechargable batteries as apparently they give the most play time on the Leap pad.

shinybaubles · 26/10/2011 12:26

Good tip about the batteries AngryFeet as I can just see ds face on Christmas with no batteries.

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 26/10/2011 13:19

Hamleys online store have green LeapPads!

simpson · 26/10/2011 13:24

what age have you all bought the leap pads for??

I have bought one for DS (6) but tbh am thinking of taking it back as I am disappointed with the apps. He will want to play chess/checkers etc and there is nothing like that.

Might get him an android/tablet instead.

shinybaubles · 26/10/2011 13:48

Have bought it for ds who is 5 will be 6 in March.

AngryFeet · 26/10/2011 13:51

Bought it for 4 (nearly 5) year old DS and 7 year old DD. I have had enough of them stealing my iphone but am not quite ready for them to have a Nintendo DS yet (not quite educational enough for me). Have asked grandparents to buy some of the games (Toy Story, Tangled etc).

Why were you disappointed?

OvOntToSuckYourBlood · 26/10/2011 15:14

I was going to get my almost 7 year old a leappad but was worried he'd find it babyish after playing on my ipad. I have lost my marbles and bought him an ipod touch instead. It's more than the leappad but will be "cool" for longer hopefully and the games are much cheaper. It's a refurbished one so I didn't pay full price.

simpson · 26/10/2011 15:49

He has a v tech smile which he hardly plays with and when he plays with my tablet he wants to play chess, checkers, card games etc.

Also although it says it goes to age 9 I have not found a game that is suitable for a 9yr old iyswim.

However I have not even got the leap pad out of the box so I may be talking out of my backside rubbish Blush

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 26/10/2011 18:55

simpson hold onto it until December and flog it on eBay; you'll get a really good price for it I bet, then you can buy your ds something better.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 26/10/2011 19:13

I think Hex Bugs are going to be popular, although not necessarily in a totally-sold-out-remortgage-your-own-grandmother-to-get-one sort of way.

Peachy · 26/10/2011 19:20

Do you think HerdOf? both my boys think they are rubbish.

LeapPad will be the one the year is remembered for I think, although apparenlty the blue ELC sizzlin kitchen is going to be a no go and we wanted that for ds4 which is a shame (not that he knew)
