Its says it all really - and just shows how much stuff the kids must have already. Between dd and her 2 younger brothers, we have dolls, dressing up, kitchens, tea sets, trains, cars, rockets, scooters, lego, meccano, a million books, teddies, craft things, jigsaws and books.

She is quite girly, but happily plays with the boys and their toys.

I have asked here if there's anything she would like, and she couldn't come up with anything. I don't want to buy for the sake of it, but we need something for Christmas day!!! I have a few stocking filler bits, but no real present. No budget for bikes and ds's etc, so needs to be reasonably priced,

I feel 6 is an odd age - too young for somethings, too old for others.

Any suggestion as to what 6yrs olds are into????

onefatcat · 25/10/2011 20:59

My dd loves

Zhu zhu pets
barbie- especially camper van and house.
sylvanian families
polly pockets
littlest pet shops
sparkly gel pens
ANYTHING with hello kitty on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sunnyday123 · 25/10/2011 21:03

one fat cat- what are the sparkly gel pens - dds would like them?!

sunnyday123 · 25/10/2011 21:03

onefatcat - homebargains has load of hello kitty really cheap!

onefatcat · 26/10/2011 22:28

They are just gel pens that are glittery and dd loves them as they make nice sparkly pictures ( without any mess Grin ). We got ours at sainsburys - I think they are crayola ones.

miserablemum · 27/10/2011 08:48

Some great ideas on here.

sunny your list still looks huge to me Shock I couldn't possibly get my kids anywhere near that amount of stuff for b'day and xmas!!!

uptightmama · 27/10/2011 22:40

My dd will be 5 and 3/4 at xmas and we have got her the playmobil campervan (£25 at Toysrus) and she has also asked for the Playmobil swimming pool with waterslide as well whih hopefully the gp's will get her.
She did originally ask for Sylvanian families stuff but seems to want Playmobil now, fickle creature...

yellowflowers · 27/10/2011 22:59

How about a voucher you have made for a day out together just the two of you with something really fun and dinner. Some of the best memories I have are of my birthday/Christmas trips to see a musical each year just me and my mum.

firsttimemama · 27/10/2011 23:01

Maxi Micro Scooter - i think that's what there called and a micro one for my 3 year old DS

yellowflowers · 27/10/2011 23:01

Or I think six is old enough for something special like a charm bracelet thus solving the problem for future years because you can get her a charm each year.

Staverton · 27/10/2011 23:08

Sunnyday- are you getting a mini or maxi micro scooter?
I ask because my ds is 4 and won't last much longer on the mini micro so wouldn't want you to waste your money- def go for the maxi

startail · 28/10/2011 00:56

Playmobil was and at 10 is DD2's favourite. Camper-van and ambulance are good semi girly ones, vehicles are DDs fav

tummytickler · 28/10/2011 07:39

Staverton - oh no - that is a bummer - I have just bought my 4 year old a mini micro! The maxi micro is sooooo expensive!

sunnyday123 · 28/10/2011 07:44

yes def my 6yrs old getting the maxi - just got my (very small) dd 4yrs the mini- i think the lowest height of the maxi is the highest height of the mini? Its a pain as itts literally double the cost!!!!

sunnyday123 · 28/10/2011 07:45

tumytickler - my 4yr old got the mini for her bday last month and is only just managing it so i think it depends on the childs size and abilty. My 6yr old is fine on the mini too but obviously it makes more sense for me to buy her the maxi for xmas

ArthurMcAffertyhastwocats · 28/10/2011 07:47

A cd player from my parents
The playmobil water park from me
Some story CDs, books and craft kits

Love the idea of a glitter ball!

StaceymAloneForver · 28/10/2011 08:36

i got dd(7) and ds (5 next week) a maxi each for their birthdays, so expensive but worth it ds keeps nickiing dd's one atm as he doesn't know he gets his own Grin

groovejet · 28/10/2011 08:55

dd1 is 7 last year her most played with present was a cool cardz kit and is still being played with. Refills are a pain but you can get from ebay or make your own up.

Agree with a 2nd hand bike if she wants one, so many kids bikes 2nd hand look brand new anyway. My mums local car boot has a trader who sells 2nd hand bikes they are in fab condition and are £30 max.

simpson · 28/10/2011 13:16

My DD (3.9) will be able to use her micro scooter for ages tbh as she is tiny.

I did think about getting 2 maxi scooters (got one for DS (6)) but although DD can ride the bigger scooter easily as it lowers down to the same level as the smaller ones, it is much heavier and she struggles lifting it up at the kerb etc.

mizu · 28/10/2011 17:28

have DDs nearly 7 and 6 next March. Will be getting:
hama beads,
second hand books,
sticker dolly dress up book or whatever they are,
glitter gel pens,
card making kits - have had before and they loved them
charlie and lola hot water bottles
usborne doodle books
new pyjamas

And the younger one will be getting a second hand bike.

Older one not sure what else but she would LOVE a piano!!!!! as would I and have been looking around at second hand ones. Would take a serious reshuffle of furniture to fit it in though.

mamacherry · 26/11/2012 21:16

She asked for a chemistry set, secret password journal and a torch. I'm also getting her a fur real kitten (!) for £12 at John Lewis. All in £50. She will got loads more from relatives which I haven't requested unless people have asked, in which case I've gone for practical stuff eg hats, tights, books, new colouring pens. In think that's loads for a six year old and always struggle with how much they end up with all in when some kids get so little. She wanted sylvanian stuff but I erm.... Find it really freaky and won't buy it!!!!

Clothilde · 26/11/2012 22:27

My daughter will be getting Kapla blocks, a torch that projects pictures of animals, fairy-tale shadow puppets, some paints and maybe pastels, some paper, a joke book and a copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

For her birthday she got a Flick-flack watch, and popular presents from grandparents were a dress, a fossil and a microscope.

asante · 26/11/2012 23:26

My dd (6) is getting:
Playmobil Hospital,
Playmobil ambulance (grandparents)
magic set
new ballet bag
recorder and teach yourself Usborne book
Cinderella DVD
Swan Lake DVD
microscope (grandparents)
head torch
books - Rainbow Magic set, The BFG, Greek Myths

DaveMccave · 27/11/2012 01:20

My DD 5.5 to my pleasant surprise really couldn't care less what she gets this year, just told me to chose, so I'm trying to make up for my previous years of going over the top and be environmentally friendly and have raided various charity shops and attic sales. She loves really girly stuff, but likes some other stuff too. She loves pokemon. The only thing she has asked for is a replacement pikachu. She got a small soft toy version for her birthday but lost it.

I have got her:
Jungle in my pocket animals (ebay bundle)
Charmander (pokemon) soft toy
Galt Horse/bag soft toy
Flower press
disney dress up shoes
mini pokemon figures (ebay)
Buzz off game
operation board game
jenga
large galt marble run (wanted something adults won't mind playing with her. Ok, I wanted one!)
original furby (attic sale)
Various books, including a pop up dolls house book
Doodle bear
Mellisa and doug jewelry box (bought last year and forgotten about)
Couple of dvd's.

Sounds like a lot, but she doesn't get much from relatives. And I've spent less than 50 quid on the lot... just some stocking bits to get.
