Our youngest dd is coming up to 9 and have no idea what to buy her. Her friends are having phones Hmm ds (she has one) ipod touch (don't think she'd appreciate it)
Because she is the youngest there are already wii, xbox, ps3, laptops etc in the house and don't want her to have a console of her own just yet.
She likes crafts, animals, Barbie, Disney Princess, the Beano, dvd's (she has a portable player) so any ideas please?

I saw this thread and thought of this thread on MSE

I bought one of these and she is lovely

TeamDamon · 24/10/2011 09:36

This is quite fun if she enjoys crafts and the Beano - am thinking about it for my DS who is 8.

Tillyscoutsmum · 24/10/2011 09:45

We've gone for design a friend stuff for 8 year old dsd as well. They do look lovely.

mollschambers · 24/10/2011 09:57

My 8 yo DD doesn't "do" dolls anymore. She's into making things - construction type and crafty. I'm thinking of getting her a marble run. One of those ones for older kids. Think she might enjoy that and makes me feel virtuous by way of educational value!!

My DD still loves her sylvannian stuff and she is 10 now.

LIZS · 24/10/2011 10:07

Sylvanians, make a bag/purse/doll type kits, brightly coloured cooking stuff and recipe book

You might well end up hating this when you are hoovering up beads from bleeding everywhere, but when I was 9/10 I loved my bead loom

DrinkYourWeakLemonDrinkNow · 24/10/2011 10:23

If you're not too overloaded with cuddly toys already there's Build A Bear. I have been a mean mummy and said no to it Sad because we are quite literally knee deep in cuddly toys, but my lot have always gone on and on about it in wistful terms.

DrinkYourWeakLemonDrinkNow · 24/10/2011 10:27

Also the one enduring thing which has been played with nearly every day by my three for years is their trampoline. I know people have mixed feelings about them but for us it's been a huge success.

She loves it.

ditavonteesed · 24/10/2011 10:30

dd 8 got a design a friend for her birthday ad it was her favourite present, has been played with constantly.

insanityscratching · 24/10/2011 10:54

Ooh lots of good ideas thank you. She'd love the design a friend doll and the Beano kit and probably the bead loom.We have Sylvanian stuff that she inherited from older sister and she's not interested unfortunately although her friends like it when they come. Definitely no more cuddly toys I'm trying unsuccessfully it seems to ditch some she has already and I'm going to look for the paper dolls because she likes things like that. We have an adopted animal of all the exotic animals she could choose from the zoo she chose a pygmy goat from the petting corner Grin Off to search Amazon now.

Ok. My DD is 8 and she has asked for Peg dolls and material to make clothes for them. You can get peg dolls and scraps of fabric on ebay. She'll have a lovely time making them and she is all into Victoriana. Cheapest present she has ever asked for!

Moblem · 24/10/2011 23:43

My 7 (nearly 8) year old has asked for the following this year ... (this is for both birthday and Christmas)

Tatty Teddy stuff for her room
Make your own stuff (lip gloss, nail polish etc)
She's also wants to try knitting and sewing
Microscope and some of those science type kits
Cool cardz maker
Roller skates

Think that's it Grin

electricslide · 25/10/2011 13:14

DD (8) has asked for Badge it (but I think I'm going to dissuade her having seen the price of refills/amazon reviews) and some zoobles stuff. She went wide eyed at a nintendo 3ds which we may get her as her DS is falling apart after 5 years use.
Otherwise we thought maybe a half decent camera.
I've already bought a few craft sets (soap kit, decopatch kit, fimo).

EustaciaVye · 25/10/2011 20:30

Mine wants a real camera, cool cardz, and a password journal. Also chocolate coins, some more chocolate, and a bit more chocolate Grin

I bought design a friend for dd1 and dd2 as thought there would be arguments got one of them for 19.99 from Argos for the doll, outfit and accessories, was very happy!

Takver · 26/10/2011 21:21

DD's no. 1 favourite present from her 9th birthday (earlier this year) was a very small but proper swiss army knife.

Having said that, I have spent rather too long in the last 9 months looking for a very small lost swiss army knife, so if I were buying another one I would see if they made them in luminous orange Grin
