What's yours? Feeling ill and sorry for myself today so need cheering up Grin I could watch Christmas Films all day - and every year can't wait until Movies 24 on Sky becomes...Christmas 24!

Mine is: Santa Claus (1985) - it's just amazing and my favourite Christmas movie ever.

Also a fan of Miracle on 34th St, and The Snowman (although not sure it counts as a "film").

Apparently Polar Express is good but I haven't watched it!

Love actually. Best Christmas film ever.

PersonalClown · 10/10/2011 12:52

I have a few.

Polar Express
Miracle on 34th Street (Dickie Attenborough version)
The Grinch (Jim Carrey)
Santa Claus the movie is a classic and should be watched by law (Dudley Moore)
The Snowman and Santa Claus are DS' favs
Muppets Christmas Carol.

And unfortunately White Christmas. I spent many years of my childhood moaning that I had to watch it every Christmas day. Now it's just not right if I don't. I blame my mother.Grin

Love Actually

Miracle on 34th Street (second one)

Muppets Christmas Carol

greencolorpack · 10/10/2011 12:58

"While you were sleeping". (1995)

"Bernard and the Genie" a TV movie, from 1990 or so, brilliant BBC Christmas fare, I wish they'd make that sort of thing every year.

Kingsroadie · 10/10/2011 13:00

Personal Clown - very pleased to see that we share an affinity for Santa Claus the movie - I too feel that it should be compulsory viewing at Christmas time. I got my husband to watch it a few years ago, he thought it was okay but didn't have the nostalgia that I did to accompany it.

Ooh also Elf. Which is odd as I usually don't think the more modern ones (and by that I mean "modern" - ie in the last 10 years) are as good as some of the ones from my 80s/90s childhood. But Elf is a firm favourite now.

Also agree - Love Actually. (Tbh I think I would agree with most Christmas film choices, being the obsessive that I am Blush) secretly has only started this thread to get more ideas for Christmas films not yet seen

Elf is brilliant! We watch that and Polar Express on Christmas eve

Kingsroadie · 10/10/2011 13:08

Okay I must get my hands on Polar Express!

faves in our house are miracle on 34th street, muppet christmas carol, polar express, santa claus, raymond briggs's, father christmas and the kids love santa paws

MrsKitty · 10/10/2011 14:56

Miracle on 34th Street (1934 original - the remake's good, but not as good!)
It's a Wonderful Life
All I Want for Christmas
Muppets Christmas Carol
Sleepless in Seattle

Everyone on MN seems to rate Polar Express - I saw it for the first time last year and wasn't that taken with it. DS (4) seemed to enjoy it though.

PersonalClown · 10/10/2011 14:58

I still haven't seen It's a Wonderful Life.

I feel I'm missing out on something!

KinkyDorito · 10/10/2011 15:54

Christmas Vacation is essential viewing in this house. I also like Bad Santa, but strictly for adults only!

All of the ones listed above, alongside DVDs such as Tweenies Christmas special which is ace. Had it when DD was little, and bought it again recently for DS.

Bernard and the Genie was brilliant; it should be shown every year.

LillianGish · 10/10/2011 16:01

Polar Express - great for kids, but not so good for adults imo.

Roseflower · 10/10/2011 16:04

Elf ,its hilarious!

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 10/10/2011 16:05

Die Hard Blush

notyummy · 10/10/2011 16:08

Def agree with It's a Wonderful Life and The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Also - EVERYONE should try and watch 'Prep and Landing'. It was released last year and is a short film from the pixar team behind Toy Story 3. It is GREAT. DD (4 at the time) loved it and so did we. It is about the elves that do the 'prep and landing' work at each house before santa arrives and is very witty and swet. Well worth a watch.

DH loves bad Santa too.

KinkyDorito · 10/10/2011 16:08

Also quite liked 'Christmas with the Kranks' - very cheesy. I couldn't believe it was based on a novel by John Grisham (that I might read). Very Christmassy! And Fred Claus.

I am a little bit of a Christmas film addict.

MrsKitty · 10/10/2011 16:09

MarginallyNarkyPuffin - I favour Die Hard 2 for a bit of festivity Grin.

LillianGish · 10/10/2011 16:09

Tweenies Christmas Special! Had forgotten about that - is that the one where they put on a pantomime and it starts to snow? Dcs used to love that - used to mark the start of the Christmas season by bringing it out (and they would watch it about 50 times!). Usually I can't stand the Tweenies, but just thinking about that is making me feel nostalgic Blush

KinkyDorito · 10/10/2011 16:09

notyummy was that shown on tv? I've got a feeling we saw a bit of that. Thanks for recommend, will certainly get my hands on a copy!

notyummy · 10/10/2011 16:09

sweet - Blush

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 10/10/2011 16:10

That's the one I meant I think. The one with Alan Rickman?

notyummy · 10/10/2011 16:11

Yes, it was shown on TV. We sky plussed it and have it on 'Keep' for viewing this December!

KinkyDorito · 10/10/2011 16:11

Lillian I'm exactly the same. Didn't like watching them, but had to concede that the Christmas shows were fantastic. Panto, Magic Toyshop, Christmas. I think it cost me about £4 for a DVD with all of the specials on it from Amazon last year.

ednurse · 10/10/2011 16:11

The Nativity!!!!
Love Actually and The Holiday
We also watch the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special and both the Royale Family ones Grin
