What's yours? Feeling ill and sorry for myself today so need cheering up Grin I could watch Christmas Films all day - and every year can't wait until Movies 24 on Sky becomes...Christmas 24!

Mine is: Santa Claus (1985) - it's just amazing and my favourite Christmas movie ever.

Also a fan of Miracle on 34th St, and The Snowman (although not sure it counts as a "film").

Apparently Polar Express is good but I haven't watched it!

Fred Claus

I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life either.

I included my favourites in the list. Was anyone meaning 'The Santa Clause' (Tim Allen) when they said 'Santa Claus' (Dudley Moore)?

Various German and Scandinavian colleagues mention an old (possibly silent) British film about a butler getting progressively drunker throughout Christmas Eve. Always on in their countries at Christmas, and they're always amazed British people don't even know of its existence

PersonalClown · 10/10/2011 16:51

No no no no To the Tim Allen one.

You don't know the one with Dudley Moore as Patch the Elf??

Blasphemous!!

Kingsroadie · 10/10/2011 16:54

Well done Belfast Bloke - impressed with the anality of it! Grin

Can I vote 10 times for Santa Claus the movie (most DEF Dudley Moore)?
Also my Miracle on 34th St is also the 1994 version.

Another so-called Christmas film fanatic who hasn't seen It's a Wonderful Life... perhaps my credentials are slipping?

Personal Clown - x post - argh I can't even watch it - I cannot wait! I am forbidden from watching Christmas films (playing Christmas songs etc) until December by my husband. I do agree with that maxim but sometimes a film or two slips through the net (when he's at work and it is my daughter's nap time)

picnicbasketcase · 10/10/2011 17:04

I love It's a Wonderful Life. The bit where there's a run on the building and loan and everyone wants all their money but one woman says she can make do with $7.50 or whatever...

Also another vote for Muppet Christmas Carol, also aplenty. The song sung by Tiny Tim, 'Bless us all'. Awwww.

Kingsroadie · 10/10/2011 17:22

Personal Clown - I will make it my mission this year to watch It's a Wonderful Life - will you join me?

OP posts:
PersonalClown · 10/10/2011 17:36

Dp moaned at me because I got Christmas tunes stuck in my head a few weeks ago so I indulged to kill the ear worm.

I had It's a Wonderful Life on my Sky+ box till my demon child lovely DS deleted it!
I will watch it. I will I will I will.

GreenandBlacksAddict · 10/10/2011 17:44

Elf and Muppets Christmas Carol

verlainechasedrimbauds · 10/10/2011 17:58

Ah, It's a Wonderful Life. The bit on the phone where he realises he can't live without Mary after all... one of the best love scenes ever, makes my skin go all tingly just thinking about it.

MrsKitty · 10/10/2011 18:14

picnicbasketcase Yes - That's my absolute favourite bit, and gets me all teary just remembering it. That, and "Teacher says, 'ev'ry time a bell rings, an Angel gets its wings' " Oh, and the running down the road yelling "Merry Christmas" to everyone & everything...It's going to be a struggle waiting until December to watch it now!

Those of you who haven't watched It's a Wonderful Life - you've got to watch it this year - BEST Christmas film EVER. Fact.

GreenMonkies · 10/10/2011 18:16

The Polar Express. Love it.

FayHauntedKnights · 10/10/2011 18:28

Has 'Jingle All the Way' has a mention yet? I love all the films if I'm honest but this one is my favourite.
Love 'Its a Wonderful Life'...the bit where Jimmy Stewart says 'Its in Fred's house' etc, gets me every blooming time.

LordOfTheFlies · 10/10/2011 18:55

The Nativity- we saw it on pay-per-view DCs loved it
A Christmas Carol - The Original and The Jim Carey one. But none of the crappy remakes on a theme especially A Carol Christmas with Tori Spelling

dinnerladies- the Christmas and Millenium episodes

Don't get the hype about Its a Wonderful Life or White Christmas

Love Actually - not just for Christmas

I love a good spooky Christmas Story too

PersonalClown · 10/10/2011 19:24

We're a bunch of over grown children!!
Muppets in the lead so far.Grin

BelfastBloke · 10/10/2011 19:30

I haven't distinguished between movies the adults like, and movies the kids like. I'm anal enough as it is.

So no-one responded about the movie I've heard of: "Various German and Scandinavian colleagues mention an old (possibly silent) British film about a butler getting progressively drunker throughout Christmas Eve. Always on in their countries at Christmas, and they're always amazed British people don't even know of its existence"

Any ideas?

Kingsroadie · 10/10/2011 19:43

Belfast - think there would be a large cross over anyway Grin

So I have your answer (I think) Dinner for One

Haven't seen it but it came up in google as shown in Germany etc every year and about a butler getting more and more sloshed - so think that must be the one!

OP posts:
winemakesmeclever · 10/10/2011 19:51

Ah...Dinner For One - brilliant. Even funnier if you are just as sloshed as the waiter!! Another vote for Elf, Its a Wonderful Life, Santa Clause the movie, the Muppet Christmas Carol and Love Actually. Anyone seen the Flint St Nativity???

rosieposey · 10/10/2011 19:58

I love 'The Holiday' it was filmed near where i lived at the time and i saw Cameron Diaz and Jude Law hanging around in between filming (it was filmed in June and the whole of Church Street in Godalming was decked out in Christmas stuff with fake snow on the pavement) Cheesy, Romantic ... what more could you ask for on Christmas Eve?

Closely followed by staying up late till Norad's Santa tracker confirms that 'he's' been Grin I cant wait!

LordOfTheFlies · 10/10/2011 20:15

Flint Street Nativity was on TV the year my DS was born ( less than 3 weeks before Christmas)
It always brings back those precious memories of my PFB little boy Blush

It is funny and sad at the same time.

Roseflower · 10/10/2011 20:27

rosie I saw them too! Well Cameron Diaz anyway!

maddiemostmerry · 10/10/2011 20:50

We like

Scrooged
Elf
National lampoon Xmas Vacation
The Santa Clause
The Snowman
A Christmas Carol, Jim Carrey
The Amazing Mr Blunden

BelfastBloke · 10/10/2011 20:51

The Holiday is a dodgy film. Some good performances but crappy elements too, including some of the writing. Cameron Diaz WELL out of her depth playing comedy, against some very strong actors.

mrsm123 · 10/10/2011 20:54

oldies - its a wonderful life, the snowman and santa claus the movie (dudley moore).
new ones - FRED CLAUS!!!! me and my kids love it. enjoy
