When to start Christmas Traditions...?

My DD will be almost 15 months at Christmas this year...

I've been reading (with delight!!!) this christmas thread about hampers with PJ's, bubble bath, a DVD and leaving things out for santa on christmas eve...

When do you start doing things like this? (15 months is too young right?? lol)

Any other ideas to make it amazing and special? It'll be the first year DH, DD and I won't be staying with parents on xmas eve so want it to be as good!

Anyway to answer your question, I'm startingthis year and ds will be 16 months I figure he'll be able to understand something is special or different about it all but really at this age I think I'll be the most excited!

When my DS was 2 we took him to London and Lakeside to look at the Christmas Lights. He was in his backpack carrier (carried by DH so high up, warm and safe. I was pg with DD)
Most of the time he fell asleep, but he loved leaning back and "ooohing" at the light.

That was the start of our Christmas Traditions, a trip to London.He didn't really cotton on until he was 3

I would suggest (my DS was 16m at his 2nd Christmas) that you remove as much packaging from around toys before you wrap them. Then they are ready to be played with immediately. Also insert batteries if required, as some battery packs have a cover that needs a screwdriver to secure it, to stop the DC fiddling with them.

I remember DS had a Weebles house that had various items in individual cellophane bags with it, some stickers that needed applying to the house, some bits that needed to be clipped on. I did all this in advance and slid it back into the box which I wrapped, it was good to go as soon as it was unwrapped Christmas morning. Obviously this is more difficult with relatives gifts that come ready wrapped.

At that age, DS loved all the sparkly things, Christmas lights, etc, but he still liked his routine, and meals at the usual time, naps and so on. No harm in starting traditions, but it will be next Christmas that they will really be able to make sense of.
