What do your 7-8 yr old DD's like playing with?

Last year my DD (then 6.5) was a tinny tiny bit upset that she didn't have 'toys' as presents, but her younger brother did (although she did love the other presents she had). She had the usual craft sets, audio cds, games, books, dvd's, a recorder, but not actual plastic cr*p 'toys'. This is because she doesn't really play with the ones she has got! She likes lego, knex and geomag, board games, craft kits, polly pocket (but we already have lots of all of these). Sylvanian family stuff comes out now and then. She has bike, scooter, roller skates. She dislikes playmobil. Please do you have any suggestions for presents and stocking fillers? I just know that relatives are going to start asking me for ideas and at the moment I don't have a clue! I would also love to be able to put a few small toys in her stocking....

DSD will turn 8 just before Christmas and has requested a Bear Factory Bear and accessories. Not a toy as such (and I really don't think she'll end up playing with it much) but that is what she's asked for......

She had a Nintendo DS last year and plays with that a lot

Thank you, we did the bear thing for her birthday and I am pleased to report that she has played with it a lot, so hopefully yours will too. I also got some plain t-shirts and fabric markers and she is currently designing her own clothes for her bear. I'm trying to hold off the nintendo DS for as long as possible as she does still play with her leapster quite a bit.

My dd is 7 just after Xmas and has asked for a dollys pram, a huge silver cross one with an umbrella on, a bmx, a dolly set with accessories and a guinea pig. Oh and zhu zhu pets.

Bath toys (for stocking). Mine still "plays" with them in the bath. Flashing bath ducks, bath crayons (which she then uses as make up for the plastic Disney princess bath toys). They are the sort of thing she would consider too babyish during the day but she reverts to being a bit younger in the bath Smile

She had a yo-yo in her stocking last year and really likes that. She also had one of these which she really likes for some odd reason

The pop pals thing looks like it could be a winner, thanks! Exactly the sort of thing she would like.
My DD has just got rid of her pram etc as it doesn't get played with. She only wanted to keep the doll. All our Zhu Zhu pets only worked for a month or so so definitley not adding to them!
This has just arrived in the post - a Nano Challenge Keyring. Had a quick play (as you do!) and I think it is really fun (especially for car journeys/waiting rooms etc).

Playmobil, In My Pockets, Anything Harry Potterish. Resolutely no dolls, but animals all over the shop. (including a bloody zhu zhu that turns itself on in the middle of the night and scares the bejaysus out of us all)

My DD will also turn 7.5 this Christmas so i'm watching this thread eagerly and have put the nano challenge thing on my list of things to get - thanks.

I love it that you too haven't gone down the DS route yet, although DD asks every Christmas for Santa to bring one (she never asks why he hasn't though so i am still holding off)

My DD still plays with Sylvanians and occasionally with polly pockets. She loves her 'Build a bear' things and the large dolls Roby and Rosy too. She also loves the Pixel Chix things and has a house and car which you can connect and any fun arty stuff - I have bought her some shrinkles for her stocking.

The pop pal looks similar to the purse pal which she got for her B'day last year and which she played with once or twice and didn't again.

I go to Hawkins Baazaar (sp) a few weeks before xmas and buy lots of silly fun stocking fillers which are as little as 30p each.

I am now off to look at Pixel Chix and shrinkles - two things I haven't heard of! Thanks for the ideas. Hawkins Baazar sounds like a good idea too - might have browse of their website later.

Pleased to help! I am determined to finish stocking fillers by the end of October so I can them concentrate on the main present. Shrinkles have been ordered, thanks so much LadyinPink, I think they will be a winner. Anyone else got any ideas?

My 7, soon to be 8 year old loves:

Build a Bear
Aqua Beads
Bendaroos
Perfume lab-type things

Sometimes she plays with her Sylvanians and her DS.

Mostly though, she likes hanging around me chattering all day!

Twirl, I bought a load of half price stationery from Sainsbury's as part of dd1's stocking. Includes a lot of Hello Kitty stuff. Also, I usually pop in a Terry's Chocolate Orange (of the Popping Candy or White Chocolate with sprinkles variety) and a tube or two of Jelly Tots or Smarties. Those Magic Trees from Hawkins are a great success.

bolter DD has that friendship bracelet set. It's really good, but does take ages, patience and total concentration to complete a bracelet and I always end up having to finish them for her.

dd will be 7.8 at xmas and i have bought her a bike, school like books to practise maths and english, smellies, lip gloss and nail varnish, clothes, wellies, pj's and then the usuall, stocking fillers of expanding flannel, socks, chocolate, stationery and jewellery

8yo DD is currently Barbie obsessed. She also spends hours with friends dressing up and has rediscovered the joy of craft (I think now she's dexterous enough to do things she couldn't before). She wants Fur Real pets for Christmas.

Funnily enough I was a bit sad last Christmas as I felt she didn't have very many toys (got an ipod, DVDs, jewellery, books etc.). Her brothers are a lot older than her which I think influenced what she wanted last year as she wanted to be like them, this years we're going back to basics as I know my Christmases of buying toys are running out fast!

DD is 7 and I struggle to find something she will actually play with. Last year I got her loads of Sylvanian stuff as she loved it at the time and she has barely played with it all year! She loves art so anything crafty gets used very quickly. She does still like to build but prefers duplo to lego.

I have bought her a Leap Pad as she loves the iphone and the camera part will appeal to her.

She also loves reading so I bought the whole Rainbow Magic set on Amazon.

sylvanians, dolls house and lego apart from that she spends her time making up dances and writing stories.
