about whether certain people that arrive by sleigh are in fact real .... DS is ten, just, it's time isn't it..... I'm sure DD was around that age, but (sob) in the words of Glee.. don't stop believing....

Ten is quite something - there were kids in ds's year casting doubt on the authenticity of the parental version of Christmas methodology back when he was in reception! (I seethed, silently, while giving thanks that ds decided they were being silly. He worked it out last year, aged seven, but thankfully took it with good grace.)

My mum had the best answer.... If you don't believe he won't come.... We never openly asked so were never told as such it was just an unspoken joke.

Never had the conversation. And as you know, my baby is sweet 16 next week! She humours me and I humour her. Still do the sitting on the end of our bed, whilst DH and I ooo and ahh at what she's got in her stocking, Although, to be fair, it is a suprise to DH!

Oh no! We've had the "some people say it's just your mum and dad.." opening of conversations regarding both Santa and the tooth fairy, from DD aged 7. I'm loathe to tell her the truth, mostly because once she knows she will probably not be able to stop herself from telling DS, who only 3 and doesn't need his fantasies smashing just yet!

I'm hoping that we'll survive this Christmas and then next year at aged 8 she can find out the truth.

Mine (will be 12 and 9.6 at Christmas) play along to keep me happy.
I think children gradually twig.
I do tell DS that Father Christmas presents are made of wood, and anything for elaborate is bought by us.

He just accepts that doing the whole Christmas thing keeps mum happy ( I know), and if I'm happy, they get a good Christmas, and Christmas Dinner.

ds1 didnt ask until last christmas when he was nearly 12, well when i say ask, he just state when we were going to the shop (just me and him) that he knew father christmas wasnt real, but was going to keep the secret so his brother and sister wouldnt find out (they were 9, 5 and 4 at the time). i was very pleased with him, and let him help me create the magic for the younger ones.

My current charges the 11 stopped beliving in santa about three years ago.However he is so good at keeping the magic for his little sister who is just five. She did say the other day that father christmas at school is a teacher because she recongises his shoes.

I finally had the FC converstaion with my DD1 aged 12 last month. I was worried that she might get teased at school! It transpires that she has known for 4 years after I woke her up delivering her stocking one Christmas Eve. She says that was her worst Christmas ever :( I must say she has been pretty good at keeping up appearances but is now merrily joining in the fun of keeping up the charade for DD2 (10) who is desperately fighting growing up. I have to say, am enjoying sharing the magic with her in a totally different way and she is very good at pointing out when I have left things lying about that perhaps shouldn't be.

DD (7) is sceptical, and claims to have seen me in her bedroom last year, accompanied by the sound of rustling, I counter claim she must have been dreaming :).

She won't openly say he doesn't exist, too risky.
