Is it bad form to give a present from charity shop (used clothing)

I have bought a gorgeous jacket and dress from charity shop (and Boden jumper for me for £3!). We are really cutting back this year. Would it be bad form to give these to a friends daughter (9yo) or do I stick them on eBay?

I've been known to do it. Especially with tiny baby clothes for a friends preemie earlier this year. They're not the types to have anything second hand but were grateful all the same.

My youngest cousin on the other hand lives in charity shop bargains and as long as it was something in her style she'd love you for it :)

Personally I love charity shop bargains and would be overjoyed to have received anything at all, but then I'm easily pleased. As long as they're in good condition and have had a quick wash then why not?

They don't always look worn! I avoid anything that does look pilly etc, but I've had some great buys, like Next clothing with tags on.

Personally it depends on the friend or receiver, I got a beautiful dress for DN last year, and it never got worn, I didn't even get a thanks off her mother. I'll not buy clothes again for DN as clearly her Mum appreciates the chav look so much more... However I have friends who'd love pretty things from charity shops.

It depends entirely on the recipient. My own two get second hand presents and are none the wiser. They couldn't care less if things have labels or come in a fancy box. I got my dd the most gorgeous purple velvet Monsoon party dress last year that gad clearly never been worn for £2. What's not to like? But I'm more careful with other people. My best friends love charity shopping as much as me and I like to find them somethng I know they'll love. But I wouldn't to it for other people.

A dear friend of mine always buys my dc's bits from charity shops and bootsales that she knows I'll like, I always really appreciate it and do the same for her with clothes and toys etc. See nothing wrong with it, a present is a present surely.

I agree it depends on the recipient as well. I absolutely love a good old rummage in a charity shop and quite often land myself some fab finds which get the "ooh where did you get that from" from friends who wouldn't be seen dead in one.

As most of my friends wouldn't be seen dead in one and would be appalled at the prospect of receiving anything from a charity shop then I wouldn't entertain it but for my sisters and my mum I would.

Helpful, thanks! (not in a sarcastic way). I love both items but my DD is only 3 months and in 8 years they might be a bit passé. DS's presents last Christmas were mainly off eBay so don't have an issue with stuff for us iyswim.
