The recent animation of The Christmas Carol, with Jim Carrey as the voice of scrooge, is also good.

pointydog · 24/08/2011 19:59

Also love The Grinch which also stars Carrey in the lead role.

pointydog · 24/08/2011 20:00

The Bear is in the same style as The Snowman. Very sweet and gentle.

redlac6 · 24/08/2011 20:03

Santa Claus the movie is the one with Dudley Moore. Although The Santa Clause with tim Allen is good too

scabbysnake · 24/08/2011 20:04

ooo haven't heard of the bear before!

Home Alone (seconded). Still makes me laugh like a drain and very Christmassy.

YaMaYaMa · 24/08/2011 20:05

Muppet Christmas Carol
Scrooged

kangers · 24/08/2011 20:09

santa claus 1, 2 and 3 with Tim Allen and Home alone 1

sjuperwolef · 24/08/2011 20:12

miracle on 34th street is the best xmas movie ever :)

Caboose · 24/08/2011 20:30

My vote would be for Elf - always makes me chuckle. Other great ones are The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Santa Clause.

LordOfTheFlies · 24/08/2011 22:39

The animated Christmas Carol (Jim Carey one) is excellant but not for young DCs.I took my DCs to see it at cinema (not in 3D thankfully) and she freaked out when Marleys face appeared. The ghosts are okay but the red-eyed horses are a bit scary.
I think it's a PG.

Could you stomach the Barney DVDs. Mine loved Barney Christmas Star and Night Before Christmas (thankfully they mysteriously found their way to the charity shop were outgrown )

NLatlarge · 24/08/2011 22:42

I love Home Alone too but not for children as young as the op's. It is violent and potentially scary for them.

MrsDBouquet · 24/08/2011 22:51

I love all Christmas films.

Miracle on 34th Street always makes me cry.

Lassie is set with a Christmas ending.

Nativity.

There is nothing wrong for Home Alone 1 and 2 for 4 and 5 years old ? (They are both PG). Don't bother with 3 and 4 as they no longer feature Macaulay Culkin and aren't as funny. Smile

hairypotter · 24/08/2011 22:54

I love Elf and The Santa Claus 1 2 and 3. Home Alone and The Nightmare before Christmas when they are a bit older.

I really should get around to watching miracle on 34th street and it's a wonderful life sometime.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 25/08/2011 00:27
