Primary school teacher's, TAs, 1:1 TAs for SN kids, nursery key workers, CMs, Nannies, Au pairs, cleaners etc

Do you get them a present, give them a tip, make them something or just wish them a Merry Christmas?

I'm going to throw a random one in as well cos my friend says she tips the butcher which I've never thought of doing. Do you?

Also what about extra curricular teachers/coaches for things like dance, music, sport, swimming etc.

Oh and youth group leaders, brownie/guides/cubs/scouts etc leaders.

Starting early aren't you?

Any one with a special relationship with my child gets a card with heartfelt thanks, and anyone who has really gone out of their way to help them gets a bottle of wine.

I never tip anyone ever.

(Unless one of the DC has played up at the hairdressers)

the kids teachers and ta's this year will be getting a little baby douglas fir in a silver coloured pot which i will decorate. i have the seeds and will planted them end of next month.

Dd's teacher, class TA and her SEN TA will all get a hand made (by dd) cracker with a lottery ticket and a little token gift that dd chooses.
Our butcher has a tips box on the counter in December so I put a couple of quid in there.
I always tip the hairdresser each time I go but not especially for Christmas.
I remember my parents tipping the postman and the dustbin man but I don't but I do tip the lad who comes round and cleans the bins and the window cleaner.

We get ds's nursery workers a tin of biscuits/ chocolates to share. I'm a 1:1 TA but in a very deprived area and don't get anything from my kids.

School staff, after school club staff and music teacher get a present and card.

Tend to get some chocs for hairdresser and a bottle of beer for the window cleaner if I remember, postman varies every day so dont bother and never entered my head to tip the bin men.

Always buy teachers / TAs a Christmas tree decoration, trying hard to make it personal - last year managed to get a 'crystal' rocking horse for horse mad TA and a sparkling gold and glass heart for teacher who had just become engaged. Children make own cards, they're not particularly tasteful, tending to involve rather too much glitter, feathers and ribbon, but (so far) are sent with love.

Would anyone be able to recommend a cleaner in the Balham/Streatham Hill area that would also tidy? Thanks

Presents for teachers are inappropriate and unnecessary and just shows up the haves and have nots at school. I don't buy them for the doctor, dentist or accountant either.
I might tip the milkman and the paperboy and in the past when I have hired a cleaner (back in the day when I could afford it) they have always had an extra week or fortnight's wages and a thoughtfuly chosen gift.

Meryl I'd never thought of it like that before but you share a very interesting point.

I dont think teachers presents are inappropriate etc, teachers and school staff play a huge part in a childs daily life and have a great deal of input into their education. I value that much more than a milkman.
