I bought a much bigger one than I normally do (farm cocked up and 4.5kg was actually 6.5kg!!!) and we still have lots left.

Have madde chicken soup with carcass, had lots of chicken sandwiches (all week); also chicken fricasee and chicken risotto.

But I am thinking at almost a week old, it is time to bin it, no? Still looks and smells OK but still...

Just goes against the grain to throw away food - especially as it cost so much! Not like we are rich at all...

yes, you can. as long as you reheat it properly when you take it out it will be fine

Everytime I hear about your monster chicken my mind boggles! Our turkey was only 4.4kg!

I would make and freeze something that will need a thorough re-heating once its thawed, rather than be eaten cold. Curry/casserole?

Clary · 31/12/2010 10:11

Arrgh I know what you mean about boggling.

I only just got it in the oven. Luckily when I took it out mega early it made loads of room for everything else!

Right, will make casseroley thing and freeze. Thanks girls.

You could freeze chicken sandwiches for packed lunches. I've done this with the last of our turkey breast meat and the cranberry relish, and I've made another batch of ham and mustard sandwiches. Wrap individually and as needed take one out of the freezer the night before and leave in the fridge to start defrosting, or take them out first thing and trust to room temperature to have them defrosted by lunchtime. I'm always sorry when I find all the sandwiches have gone!
