I think yesterday was the best christmas ever! ds came downstairs and teared into his presents with abandonment, then PIL's came round and he opened their presents. we had lunch (the first time Ive ever made christmas lunch - or cooked a turkey for that matter) and it was bloody lovely, then a bit of tv before we went to my dads. we watched soaps, talked, drank and ate then came home.

nothing huge happened, but ds loves all of his presents, dh got me really good presents (i normally outdo him) and it was just a really lovely day. now we are going to sil's for lunch (christmas day mark 2)

Glad you had a good one.

Mine was super special as I was due to work a 12 hr shift and was in bits about it.
I rang in at 5.30am and my boss said it was quiet so i didnt need to go.
It was a wish come true and I appreciated every moment of the day.

Enjoy today too, I have 14 of my family coming over - just doing cold meat chips an pickles!!

Lovely. Really nice. Ds's didn't wake up till 7am. No thats not true, ds1 was up at 4am, but told to go back and he could have his stocking at 6am.
Great presents. Might have helped if I had bought some batteries for ds2's cd player. Nice one mum. He was DISTRAUGHT.
Gammon was beautiful. All the food was great. Dh's trifle was fab.
Then we sat down to watch tv. Wasn't it CRAP ? The One Ronnie was awful. Dr Who wasn't much better. Strictly was dreadful. And even Walliams Come Fly with me, stuff was terribel.
Dh and I wondered why we were so surprised. But it was PARTICULARLY SHIT.

But what a lovely day we all had.

JemimaMop · 26/12/2010 10:12

Yes, we did. Which was against all odds really as I have been ill with flu and so half of teh preparation wasn'r done, plus we are deep in snow so we weren't sure whether family would actually make it, then on Christmas Eve there were many last minute tantrums...

But on Christmas morning I thought oh sod it, its a big roast with a few extra people and they are in my house so had all better behave. I didn't run myself ragged trying to be the hostess with the mostess, yes I cooked the lunch but I bellowed at family for help when I needed it. After lunch I sat down with a large sherry and played with my Christmas presents, taking inspiration from the DC Xmas Grin

It was far more relaxed, and probably more enjoyable for everyone as there was no pressure for it to perfect. DS1 spent most of the day sitting under the dining table playing on his DS and DS2 spent most of the day sitting on the stairs with his head in a book, I didn't stop them and make them be more sociable as it was their day to enjoy too!

Now I have enough cold meat and bits to feed most of the village for the next fortnight, and plan to do as little as possible.

Merry Christmas!

Best ever. DS (7) at last of an age where he has some restraint and good manners when opening presents. DD (4) still a bit can I open the next one a nanosecond after the previous, but more chilled about it as realise tis just a phase. We let them open all their presents in the morning, as GPs presents later so not too much of an openingfest. They were really delighted with everything, which meant a lot as I spent a loooong time thinking it through, choosing, buying at the best price etc.

Lunch was just brilliant. No stress at all. Did lots Christmas Eve and then between 10 and 12 once the DC had opened all their presents so didn't miss anything. Rellies came at midday. Made the gravy as soon as the turkey came out and as I rested it for 1 and a half hours, there was very little to do at the last minute. Its honestly the first Christmas lunch I have sat down relaxed, enjoyed the food on my plate, and had fun. Pass the Christmas parcel before pudding was a big hit, too.

Watched Doctor Who, Blackadder and Come Fly with Me. Did two big puzzles, played with DC and caught up with rellies. BIL and girlfriend got up at 6am with DC this morning, first lie in for me for a year.

Bliss. My lot here tomorrow, which I suspect will have its own charm. Xmas Grin

Best ever. DD loved her presents. I cooked an amazing Christmas dinner for my mil and my sil - all the food was perfect.

Really looking forward to having all of it reheated for lunch Xmas Grin

Exceeded my expectations! I have depression atm and have had to have my anti anxiety medication upped for the festive season Xmas Blush

We left dd's(4) stocking in her room, she woke us up at 9.30am to open it - and thought that we didn't have any presents so she started giving out items from her stocking to us! Xmas Grin

We went overboard with pressies for her, but tbh I don't care. She was grateful for every one, and only gets from us, so sod it. We loved every minute of seeing her open them Xmas Smile

I particularly liked watching dh open his 'paperjamz' guitar and then seeing him 'rock out' - ha! Xmas Grin

It was so much fun :) DS is 2 and the first year he understood it and was excited about it. Several hours of present opening after he gave us a lie in was amazing.

mumeeee · 26/12/2010 15:29

We had a good day here even though DD1 wasn't here. First one without her for 23 years. DD2 21 and DD3 16 opened thier stockings ( well large Christmas bag) in DD2's bedroom at 8.30 then bought the stockings into us, sat on our bed and we all showed each other what we had got ( yes DH and I have stockings too.
Went out for Christmas Dinner at The Plymouth Arms between 12 and 3, The girls were good company and the food was good. Opened Tree presents when we got back after DH had lit the fire.
we all spent the afternoon looking ad doing things with our presnts, DH.I and Dd3 watched Doctor Whoo, Then late we all watched Briget Jones The Edge of reason while habing tea in the Living rom. DD1 phoned early evening and spock rto us all, Shes having a great time skiing with her DH and his family First time she has gone skiing and she loves it,

MrsCratchit · 26/12/2010 16:28

Fantastic, thank you. And I'm so pleased everyone had a lovely day. DH and I hosted this year for the first time- and possibly last for a while with DC1 due in February. My parents, sister, great aunt and ILs arrived early afternoon meaning DH and I could get the turkey in and then have a leisurely morning exchanging our gifts and getting the last minute bits done. Everyone arrived for drinks and nibbles at 1pm, watched the Queen at 3, then dinner, gifts, dessert and games. They all left around 8, having helped clear up, so DH and I could collapse in front of the TV. Heaven!

wewishyouamerrylissiemas · 26/12/2010 17:12

oh, its really good to see that everyone had a good day. I was so stressed in the run up that I was a wreck by christmas eve, but it went swimmingly.

had lovely time at sil and bils. ds has been spoilt rotten! although I made some fab cinnamon cupcakes with green butter icing decorated to look like little christmas trees. they were so pretty, we left my nephew alone with them and he ate all the icing off the top. when he realised what he had done he was distraught
