Does my freshly-marzipanned Christmas cake NEED to sit for 24 hours or can I ice it later tonight??

Had rotten flu all week, only just managing to do 'stuff' today Xmas Sad Thank goodness we don't have guests this year!

So I have just marzipanned the cake at 5pm. Everywhere I read sates to leave it 24 hrs before icing, but know I won't have time/be arsed tomorrow. D'you think it would be ok to ice at about 10pm tonight? Confused

Ooh good - yes it's the ready to roll stuff in a block from Tesco's. Not quite brave enough to make my own. Thanks!

I have marzipanned and iced my cake on the same day, and it was fine.

I don't think my dad has EVER not done it all on the same day and it's lovely! Go for it.
