Crap wrappers of the world unite!

I have just wrapped a standard rectangular box. It looks like the work of a blind-folded two year old. I asked DS3 if I could say he wrapped it but annoyingly he's going through an honesty phase.

DH won't say a word, but I'll know it'll upset him. There will be inward wincing going on. He wraps things beautifully, but seasons change in the time it takes him to do a single present, so I try to do it craply and quickly when he's not here.

Does it matter? Does anyone actually care/notice how neatly the edges of the paper are folded?

tell him clumsy the elf wrapped it whilst wrapping all the other presents.

ShanahansRevenge · 22/12/2010 18:08

I would rather a bdly wrapped pressie than the ANAL things I get from certain friends....on pal puts tape on EVERY single join....two or three layers and the only way in is to bite it off!

MrsChemistrySetInMyStocking · 22/12/2010 18:09

I'm ok at wrapping, my problem is that I seem subconsciously attracted to weird shaped gifts.

A prime example is that I bought my brother a wok one year. Ever tried to wrap a wok? Don't.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/12/2010 18:18

Have we mentioned Aaron Spellings not one but three gift-wrapping rooms

Hassledge · 22/12/2010 18:46

:o UQD

I need a gift wrapping room. Maybe that's my issue - not attitude or cack-handedness, but lack of a proper room. A room with peace and quiet and right angles and wired ribbon.

DH does this to wind people up! I have had to stop him wrapping presents for kids as they end up getting upset!

stnikkilarse1978 · 22/12/2010 18:49

That needs it own thread schwarzkopf Grin

What the hell is with the freaky doll room [scared]

TheYuleLogLady · 22/12/2010 18:50

i hate it and i too am crap. it's so soul destroyingly boring. i just can't be ased to make sharp edges.

i'm considering handing everyone a nice festive carrier bag containing their present. including the you-know-whats for the DDs.

MurkyTurkey · 22/12/2010 21:03

I bought some paper and the cashier asked if I wanted it rolled or folded!

Whats the point when its going to be wrapped by a walrus.

TheProvincialLady · 22/12/2010 21:07

Ah my spiritual home.

I take so much time over wrapping, I try really hard, I spend a fortune on wrapping paper and trimmings....and it all looks like I threw the parcel down the stairs after I wrapped it.

And I just cannot wrap two different ends of a present the same way, no matter what I do.

TheUnmentioned · 22/12/2010 21:12

Dh has never knowingly wrapped a present other than mine, I wrap them all.

I am not good at it but they look neat at least.

Ds (4 tomorrow) helped me wrap this year and I realised I was a control freak when I considered re-doing them ALL because the sticky tape wasnt straight.

Hassledge · 13/12/2011 13:41

I am shamelessly bumping my thread from this time last year because I have just re-experienced the joys of crap wrapping. I'm getting worse, not better - I'm going to have to say the cats were trying to help or something.

Poor, poor DH is going to want to weep when he gets back. It will cause him physical pain to see what I've done.

Thank you for bumping op. Loved reading this thread! V entertaining.... Xmas Grin

TheChristmasTreeSurgeonsMate · 13/12/2011 13:55

Get a grip crap wrappers, it isn't hard. Is present rectangular? If so, go to (a). If not, go to (b).

(a) Cut paper to size. Prepare three bits of sellotape. Wrap. Add ribbon if feeling generous.

(b) Place present in middle of large piece of tissue paper. Pull up all sides, bunch together at top and tie with ribbon.

Job done.

Hassledge · 13/12/2011 14:27

"Cut paper to size. Prepare three bits of sellotape. Wrap. Add ribbon if feeling generous."

It's the "wrap" bit where it all goes tits up. I am guilty of not being arsed to cut the paper to size, though.

I shelled out extra this year for wrapping paper from WHSmith which has a grid printed on the back. Makes it a lot easier to get the right amount of paper.

MudAndGlitter · 13/12/2011 15:28

I can't wrap but DCs are little and I'll pretend the elves were in a hurry

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 13/12/2011 15:33

I am useless, it has taken me all fucking afternoon to pack up a couple of parcels to go in the post.

And I get wrapping rage. I am like this Xmas Angry

CarolCervix · 13/12/2011 15:35

i hadn't realised this was last years - until i realised i had formulated the exact same response as I had put last year.

I hate wrapping. this year i plan to simply forget, then dh will have to do it all on christmas eve while i'm at work. like last year.

BarkisIsWillin · 13/12/2011 21:09

Buy tissue paper in different colours. Wrap loosely around gift, then stuff into gift bag with a few twists/of tissue paper peeping out.

iheartdusty · 13/12/2011 21:20

I like your style Barkis.

My wrapping looks like the tent after DH and I try to get it back in its bag.

But everyone loves what's inside, so ner-ner-ner.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 14/12/2011 13:16

oh my, my wrapping is just very bad, it starts off ok and goes down hill quickly, i hate it, don't do tags for dc's, name scribbled in pen on the front, last year i just did the first letter of their name. i use far to much paper as well, just hate it, if i could afford to pay someone to wrap my presents i would, dp not interested in christmas present buying or wrapping Xmas Hmm.
i buy all my paper in the sales, but buy the better paper although don't really care what the pattern is, one year everyone got their presents wraped in winnie the pooh christmas paper simply because i bought a job lot from boots for 10p a roll bought the lot Xmas Grin.
i do however take pride and time in choosing gifts for people which i think is more important.
