My house does not smell Christmassy

It does not smell of fir tree because we have a fake one this year :(.

It does not smell of cold and brrrrr because we live in Dubai (hence fake tree).

It does not smell of log fires. See above.

It does not smell of port brandy and cigars and mulled wine and the odd sneaky fag because there's only me and the kids here. No cousins and uncles and grandpas and siblings.

It does not even smell of Christmas cooking because there are only 4 of us for Christmas so no need to go crazy, and we're eating out for Christmas dinner, and we're going out for stollen and mince pies Christmas eve.

I suppose I'll make some mince pies.

I did get the children to stick cloves in oranges and they smell lovely when you shove them up your nose and snort, but they are not exactly permeating the house with warm Christmassy smell.

Does your house smell lovely? Wish I could come and have a sniff.

I even tried to find a nice orange or spice scented candle, but the best the supermarket could offer was a vanilla Glade air freshener. I passed.

I am considering baking some sort of orange, cinnamon and clove concoction to make the house smell nice.

dry thick cut orange slices in a low oven say 100 degrees for a few hours then hang them on your tree

PortlyBlackSantaUpAChimney · 22/12/2010 15:09

second vote for cloves studded oranges. However, save your thumbs by piercing orange with cocktail stick or skewer. I forget every year until I am on orange number 4 and my thumbs are sore and swollen

Did she not already say she did oranges and cloves?

I would bake something with cinnamon and cloves in or make mulled wine/ vimto for the kids. Just heat gently adding cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and a bit of orange juice.

That'll teach me to read only half the op. It's like when you are being given directions...

sorry Yuno Xmas Blush

Gingerbread biscuits on the tree make a lovely christmassy smell, or a gingerbead house.
