Looking on the website I can only seem to find frozen ones.

Surely they must? Not sure what the quality will be tho. Or indeed the availabilty...

blackeyedsusan · 22/12/2010 00:39

but Tescos do and they had some in yesterday.

ChippyMinTurnAgainWhittington · 22/12/2010 11:53

Yes they do. I bought one yesterday. They had several types - bronze, standard, crowns, stuffed & rolled joints etc.

Why would the quality be suspect?

nappyaddict · 22/12/2010 22:35

What's the difference in taste between bronze and standard? Is one better than the other?

Sorry chippy I just meant they might not sell a good-size free-range bronze one which is the only one I would want to eat.

I am happy to stand corrected tho! Grin

nappyaddict · 24/12/2010 20:13

What's so good about the bronze ones as opposed to normal?

OP posts:

Bronze is just a better breed AFAIK - better flavour than a white one, better distribution of fat so moister meat etc.

I'm far from an expert tho as I always buy a chicken at Christmas, but I am lucky enough to be able to get it from a local organic/free range farm supplier.

nappyaddict · 24/12/2010 20:58

I got a free range bronze turkey for 5.99 a kg at Lidl in the end.

Cool, that's a good price I reckon. Grin

(How big is it? My chicken is a MONSTER!, rather unexpectedly!)

nappyaddict · 24/12/2010 21:21

About 5.5kg

Clary Smile

Just reporting back that my asda turkey was well received - cooked it a la delia in foil and it was moist and tasted of turkey! Did use waitrose stuffing though Wink

Clary · 27/12/2010 13:18

Glad it was good!

We have a lot of chicken left here as ours was a 6.5kg monster...

Was yummy tho and piping hot even after resting (in foil and tea towels) for 3/4hr.
