going to my parents' for christmas where there'll be 16 of us. We have got the turkey and some booze in the past but my mum bought the turkey this time. There's no point offering to pay for something because there's no way she'll accept. What nice things could I take? She has starter, cake and pudding sorted. Could I get/make some canapes? If so, what?

We're doing some cold side dishes this year. So caramelised red onions, coleslaw, and we'll be bringing some salad dressing, and whatever else we can think of. It's not much, but it's a wee contribution.

pigindisguise · 21/12/2010 09:36

champagne (& maybe some cassis so we can have kir royales rah rah)
olives

How about some really nice cheeses, chutneys and biscuits for later?

What lovely kind people you all are. Every year I used to host Christmas and PIL would bring a bottle of wine and SIL would say 'ooh did I have to bring something' grrrr....

I second the cheeses lucky. That was just my thoughts!
Also candle good idea, wine. Port or sherry to go with cheese. You could take some fancy coffee, tea and biscuits.
Mini hamper ?
Xx

You could also take her something for her breakfast for the following day so she can relax eg croissants and fancy jams, muffins etc. And something for her bath xx
