I am the queen of disorganised at Christmas and am still trying to think of what to get dd! She has in my opinion, everything she needs, and hasn't asked for anything over the top, as she knows we can't afford what she really wants, ie macbook laptop or Xbox. She has a laptop anyhow and a playstation but they are very old. I suggested clothes from Superdry but she said they would be too expensive. She does like to open a lot of 'bits' too. Grr silly me but hoping someone might have an idea I haven't thought of. Thanks in advance.

And I am clearly stupid as well as mean as I can't even do Confused properly!

witchinthewindows · 19/12/2010 23:08

Maryz, Superdry is an urban outfitter type of shop, I googled it earlier and it wasn't as expensive as I thought so may go there...if the bloody snow doesn't kick in and put that idea to bed.

I know what you mean re seeing what others are getting, my dd doesn't go short but I really wish I could keep up with some of her friends' parents. C'est la vie

I just had a look at the Superdry website - I don't think my girls would like it tbh and to me it seems very expensive.

But I did see a couple of shirts that dp might like.

BrigitBigKnickers · 19/12/2010 23:30

This is from us and whole family (quite a few of them who have contributed money)
-TV/DVD combi (on offer in Argos)
-Hollister/ Abercrombie and fitch hoodie
-Converse all star hightops
-high heeled shoes from New Look

My two go to UO for ideas and then to the vintage shop next door!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 20/12/2010 09:38

Republic is definitely worth a visit - there's always something sparkly and pretty as well as the usual checked shirts/baggy/grungy stuff.

And they usually have '2 for £30' type offers.

DS quite likes the blokes section as well, although if you want to spend £££ on jeans etc there you can as they stock more expensive brands as well.

goingmadinthecountry · 20/12/2010 10:01

SoulCal at Republic quite popular with nos. 2 and 3 here, but no. 1 wouldn't go near it. It's a minefield! Also unlike Hollister they put the lights on.

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/12/2010 10:09

I have paid for dd to go on holiday Berlin at half term - that cost £600 and is her Christmas present.

Which is a BAD idea as I am still going to end up spending more money anyway.

I am giving her £200 to buy clothes with in the sales - we have planned a trip to Cabot Circus next week. DD is planning to get a Superdry coat with that.

warning if anyone is planning to buy their dd Superdry stuff off the website, their seizes are incredibly small. DD is an 8-10 and is a L iirc. Small is something absurd like a size 4.

I am also getting her a Hollister hoody, a thousand pairs of socks, some slipper socks, pyjamas, knickers, smellies and chocolates to open on the day.

DD would love the naff gold Casio watch, Cyb. She would however curl her lip enormously at a pandora bracelet (and she would lose it anyway).

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/12/2010 10:10

Republic is very good. However Hollister is very cheap as well - t shirts are about £20, hoodies about £40. Far cheaper than the equivalent stuff in Jack Wills, Abercrombie and even Superdry.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 20/12/2010 10:25

I'm not familiar with Hollister - is there anywhere in 'nham that stocks it Getorf?

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/12/2010 10:29

No don't think so, nearest place is Cabot Circus in Bristol.

urban outfitters is so shite. Flimsy poorly made fashion clothes that look like the sort of thing art students would make. Except that art students would actually make it themselves and spend one tenth of the price.

BelligerentYhoULE · 20/12/2010 19:24

My point exactly! DD1 made herself a mini skirt, like the ones they sell for forty quid in UO. It cost a pound for some wide black elastic (which became the waist band) and one pound fifty for the fabric.

Yes Skullcandy - all our DCs have these and they're fab.

I also bought this lettering book (prob too late to buy online now; in fact, still waiting for mine Confused).

She likes to spend ages prettying up her projects so I think she'll use it.

panettoinydog · 20/12/2010 19:50

interestign lettering book. Klutz do some good fun stuff

christmaswrapping · 20/12/2010 19:56

I was struggling to find something but yesterday I finally (hopefully) sorted it -

I bought a bright pink fuschia sewing machine from John Lewis

A Cath Kidston sewing box

A sewing set

A Cath Kidston sewing book that has lots of projects, but comes with all the materials to make a bag.

christmaswrapping · 20/12/2010 19:58

Talking about ear phones.

My dd wants those ear muffs, that you wear round the back of your head "that everyone's wearing" I can't find them

a) does anyone know what she's talking about
b) where can i buy them?

BelligerentYhoULE · 20/12/2010 20:32

We bought our dds a red sewing machine to share two years ago - it went down v well!

No idea re: ear muffs, sorry.

I have to take dd2 out tomorrow to buy something for dd1 (15), with a budget of about a tenner. Any ideas please?

panettoinydog · 20/12/2010 20:40

Have have asked mn for ideas about every family member's present, ghoul?

How's about a ruby and millie nail varnish. £10 believe it or not

BelligerentYhoULE · 20/12/2010 20:42

I have given other people lots of ideas too!

Normally I'm good at gift buying (apart from for dp) but this year I just can't seem to think of anything.

I am so bored of everything in the shops; it's the same old shite every year (step forward Boots, especially) and nobody actually needs anything. I would really rather forget the presents and just go on holiday tbh.
