Decoration hanging display thingy

Is that a vague enough title?

We don't have room to put up our big tree, since we moved furniture around, and only have a small one tucked on a table. We have some gorgeous glass decorations which are too big to really hang on a small tree - the largest are about 4 inch long rectangles and just hit the lower branches so they look cramped and you can't really see them.

So I was wondering if anyone has seen anything which would stand on a table and which you could hang big decorations on without them being cramped or invisible?

Currently they are hanging on a mug tree with green tinsel wrapped round it, but something a tiny bit more decorative would be nice!

have you a wire coat hanger?

untwirl the ends, bend into a circle, thread the baubles/decoration on, twizzle some pretties through (battery lights/fir trimmings etc) and wire them/duct tape securely to the wire

retwirl the ends, ta dah a wreath

I did say to DH there might be a Blue Peter solution! Trouble with that is I'd have to hang it horizontally to keep them in place?

ooh oooh have you a chandelier-type light that you could utilise for suspending?

Only in the middle of the lounge - and DH and DS don't miss that by much at the best of times, so I think I'd get complaints

Freestanding would definitely be better - I suppose I could make a sort of wire tree-shape. But I'm pretty cack-handed with that sorrt of thing and I doubt it would look any better than the current mug tree.

Yes I think they'll look good on there - nice to see them out and visble for once!

We got a smaller tree than normal this year and have put it in a corner rather than at the window so I had a lot of decorations left over. I've gone for hanging my glass baubles from the dining room light. I used different lenghts of invisible thread and I am really pleased with the result. We live in an old draughty house and the baubles move slightly and catch the light.

If you dont get to Ikea you could go and forage for a tree branch or some twigs. Spray gold or silver if you like and plonk into a bottle or vase. Hang them from that. I have a white enamled jug in the kitchen which is filled with contorted willow. I've hung some white and red wooden decorations on it along with some battery operated mini lights.

Was just about to recommend ikea - saw the stands there last week (chrome or ivory) and thought they were a brilliant idea but didn't have any use for them ( although typically now have just thought of one).

I have hung some baubles from my curtain pole in a room that doesnt have a tree in it. They hang down at different lengths

I asked exactly the same question last week and ended up buying a jewellery stand off ebay. It's ok but too small really to hang most of the thinks I wanted to.

I love the ikea ones in the links and will see if I can find anyone daft enoughto go for me take me to buy one!

Well we were going to IKEA today to buy them, but we're back to "Is your journey really necessary?" up here, so I figure an hour each way to pick one up is probably not in their category of "necessary" and will leave it a day or two...
