Quirky presents for small boys?

Pannacotta · 12/12/2010 20:46

I still haven't bought Xmas presents for DS1 and DS2 who are 6 and 3.
They have so many toys that the house is overflowing, plus loads of DVDs and books.

Any suggestions please for non-toy presents, perhaps something a bit unusual?

Thanks

Adopt an animal type thing

1 year membership to local attraction

Tickets to CBeebies/character/book type show at local theatre

My DS's are 6 and just 4 and have had similar problems this year.
Some ideas:

Dressing up clothes

Wooden theatre and puppets

Not unusual but what about a Wii (my DS's are getting one this year)

An outdoor type thing like a trampoline

Craft stuff

A keyboard - DS1 got one like this for his 6th birthday a few months ago. Its fab. Both my boys love it. You can get them quite reasonably on ebay.

Sorry that should say I've had similar problems this year.

a pet???

ok ok i know the whole not buying pets for christmas... but if you think it through and know you can take care of an animal it isn't the worst idea

we have rabbits and fish and they're great

Pannacotta · 12/12/2010 21:21

Thanks, both of you.
Great ideas. I will look into local shows, as that would be good for both boys.
They do have dressing up clothes, but I could get them more.
We have bought DS1 a keyboard for his birthday, which was quite £££ so I dont want to spend too much, but a trampoline might be fun.
WIll look at your link iloveblue, a wooden theatre sounds lovely!

Some new grown up torches, wind up ones or similar. My 2 DCs, 6 and 4,were playing great pretend games with these with the lights off this afternoon! They were only £3.95 each :-)

qwertyshell · 12/12/2010 22:05

what about a Metal Detector ?? my son 4 loves his.. hours of fun :)

shongololo · 12/12/2010 22:11

i bought my boys one of THESE one year - I cannot begin to describe how much fun they had with them.

also buy whoopie cushions. Timeless fun. Especially if you can get granny to play along.

tulpe · 12/12/2010 22:21

Can't do link on stoopid iPad but check out Paperchase's stocking fillers section. I bought DCs the Animal Hands - transfers of animal heads which go on their thumb and forefinger so they can make animal talk :). Also the Kids Trivia boxes are great. Small, just £3 and hours of fun. We have the Trivia ones and the Chatterbox one which poses questions for the family to debate (what would you do if you were invisible for the day......rather than determinism vs freewill :o )

Pannacotta · 12/12/2010 22:27

I love the robot's arm, esp as the boys need some encouragement in the tidying up department!
qwerty where did you get the metal detector from?
Will go to Paperchase too, it was on my list, the transfers sound good, DS2 loves little fake tatoos...

Hawkins Bazaar for loads of quirky ideas, particularly good for stocking fillers, but lots of bigger stuff too. Their wooden toys are fab, as are their role play etc

Pannacotta · 13/12/2010 08:47

Thanks again, will pop to Hawkins today, we have one locally.

agree Hawkins Bazaar, also Firebox has great quirky gifts.

dementedma · 13/12/2010 13:51

a tent? They could put it up in the bedroom and camp in..

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 13/12/2010 13:53

What about those rubber bands in the shape of animals etc? Puzzles? Games? DD(4) and DS(7) love the Magnetic Fishing Game.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2010 13:54

I bought DD something called EZ Fort.
It's some sticks and balls which you fit together to make a forename for a den... Just drape a sheet over the top.

Amazon have it. I got mine from gltc with a discount code though.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2010 13:55

Forename??? Frame! damn stupid autocorrect :)
