Do you get dressed up on Christmas day?

My family always get scrubbed up on the big day. Suited and booted, best clobber on.
The past few years I've been going to my OH's family for christmas and am always really disappointed that they're just kicking about in there joggy bottoms.
Feel like it takes some of the magic away. does this make me a snob? My OH thinks so.
I should add that i would never let on to his folks that i'd rather we were all dressed up.

Go Fairhaired! Well done you! Definitely something sexy for you I think.

pigleychez · 08/12/2010 21:20

We dont majorly dress up but I aim to wear something nice. This year ive bought a nice tunic top with Leggings and my new knee high boots.

DD's have new xmas tops which they will wear with a little skirt and DH.. well it will be jeans but i'll insist he wears a smartish jumper at least!

fair-haired - congratulations on your brilliant weight loss.

Yes we get dressed up too. I usually wear a dress with some belly room :o. This year I am planning on wearing a velvet tunic from Toast, wolford opaques and shoe boots.

DH always dresses smart - no jeans, as do the DCs.

SparkleSoiree · 08/12/2010 21:41

We dress up a tad! Grin

Well done Fairhaired!

And no to the dressing up here. DN and I will be in our Christmas pyjamas until mid-morning probably. Then we might get dressed. Or we might not. I'm completely relaxed about it tbh.

rofl @ the special stretchy Christmas dresses

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/12/2010 22:08

We dress up, I think it's nice to make an effort because it isn't a normal day.

sethstarkaddersmum · 08/12/2010 22:09

some of us do, some of us don't in my family.
those of us with nice dresses will wear them and dh will try and find a clean fleece.

storminabuttercup · 09/12/2010 10:08

god yes, I too have never got past the 'christmas outfit' tradition. OH always buys a new 'christmas jumper' (not a gaudy patterned one just a new one :-D )

MooMooFarm · 09/12/2010 10:12

Yes we dress up, if wearing a paper hat counts Grin

I hv bought a red jumper dress from nxt, green long slvd stripy top
To go underneath as dress has short sleeves
Chocolate diamond tites and will buy earrings
Don't hv many clths so nice 2 wear new ones
Hv bought both my girls a long slvd knitted dress each and new tites

ClaireDeLoon · 16/12/2010 10:45

I normally try to make more of an effort than normal but I'm never overly dressy as such. Just a nice day dress type thing.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 16/12/2010 10:50

If we did Christmas at home I'd imagine we'd probably not bother too much, but we're always either at my Mum's or my MIL's so we wear something nice (tops rather than t-shirts, although DD will be trying to out sparkle the Tree as usual)

Poledra · 16/12/2010 10:56

DDs looooooove an excuse to wear a party dress, so they'll be all gussied up. I've bought a new top and black trousers, so that's me. DH wears whatever Hmm. ILs/parents wear new clothes but not necessarily dressy, IYSWIM.

IssiNoho · 16/12/2010 11:30

I usually push my family to dress up a bit for the day because of the photos. I don't want to look back in years to come and say 'What on earth were you wearing....?' Xmas Grin

Having said that though, we don't go ott on with sparkles or anything as the dog needs a walk and I would feel stupid wandering around my neighbourhood in eveningwear.Xmas Wink

We once had a Christmas where everyone but me stayed in their (new Christmas)pyjamas and it was really horrible. I had made such an effort with the decor and they all looked shabby! They were never allowed to again!
