I bought one in the ikea january sales for a stupid price, it's still in date so I thought I would do it with DD once the schools break-up.

Anyone wish to join me???

We did ours last night/today! Put it together with a tube of pre-made icing last night (bit risky as DP and I had polished off a few glasses of wine beforehand) and now it is all finished! Decorated with smarties, jelly tots and very wobbly icing.
Maybe I should take a pic? (Its not quite like the one on the box...)

I'm doing one. Was tempted to make my own gingerbread this year, but then came to my senses.
They were 2 for £3.50, so I got one for MIL too. When I make it it's just for looking at and oohing over. The DC's can eat MIL's!

ooooh I saw them last year and thought they looked ace... but here's a stupid question (apologies in advance) but what do you DO with them... once they are made I mean

do you literally hack into them and eat them - or leave / chuck in the bin?!

Me! I bought one a few weeks ago and am waiting for the right moment to do it - I can tell there is going to be a struggle between my aesthetic desires and the dcs' enthusiasm - I wonder who will win...

We tried several times to make one. In the end we just laid all the bits on top of each other and said it had collapsed in either high winds or an avalanche.

I would love to have 3 of these for dc's to do when school breaks up but sadly the neaest ikea is nealy 50 miles and dh won't justify the drive just for ginger bread.

We always make ours on New Years Eve then hack into it for pudding on New Years Day.

Sainsbo's sells a simple small DIY Dr oetker version in the cake ingredients isle.

Lidl do a fairly nice one (straight from Germany, gingerbreadhouse country).

Yes, you do eat them! After dinner, the kids can go and break a nice big piece off.

It looks a mess, but they LOVE it.
