A calendar of family photos from Photobox - they also do some beautiful photo books - perfect for a proud Grandma
We've also bought her perfume.

Longo · 03/12/2010 15:18

`She's had the calendar and book before!!

This is our first Christmas without my MIL!!!
I always got her flowers, photo gifts or cd's as she was in small residential care Xmas Smilex

scurryfunge · 03/12/2010 15:20

What is your budget? Mine had a pandora bracelet for her birthday so I have bought her another bead.

whomovedmychocolate · 03/12/2010 15:21

I have got her a digital radio - a little eco one - they use very little leccy and no more scanning for stations.

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 03/12/2010 15:26

my MIL won't even notice if i gave her something or not.
I'm pretty sure she's not aware that I am her DIL.
:(

(although, when DH told her for the 2nd time that he'd got married she went "I know ! you've already told me!"

but DH will give her something like chocolates or flowers, and soft bed socks - that kind of thing.

starfishmummy · 03/12/2010 15:58

Mine usually gets a book and a picture of ds in a nice frame.

I am fed up with her giving me stuff she found in the cupboard (been there ages) that turns out to be a nice gift we gave her.

bigchris · 03/12/2010 16:00

AnnieWinehouse · 03/12/2010 16:14

school photos of the children (from them!)
probably chocs too

Dexterrocks · 03/12/2010 23:04

I love mine too.
This year we are clubbing together with SIL and getting her a new tumble dryer - necessity rather than luxury this year!

In previous years we have given her Chanel No 5 perfume, a coffee machine, pyjamas, slippers, trousers and tops, new dinner service, carpet cleaner, power washer, fleece, picture frames, wind up torch, good gloves, a nice purse, vouchers for new shoes, money towards new glasses...

If she needs something functional we help towards it or get it for her. If not we try to give her a few of the little luxuries in life.

chipmonkey · 03/12/2010 23:20

I am getting her gift vouchers as anything SIL and I buy her ( We are both DILs) she turns her nose up at and asks for the receipt. Her own dd's could give her shite on a stick and she'd praise it up to the hilt.

Envy at those of you with lovely MILs!

MumInBeds · 03/12/2010 23:23

I don't know, dh sorts out the gifts for his parents and I don't think he has sorted it yet.

barbarianoftheuniverse · 03/12/2010 23:28

electric blanket
fleecy throws
wine

YankNCock · 03/12/2010 23:30

Same thing I got her last year, a subscription to Good Housekeeping. She genuinely liked it and was pleased we are going to renew it for her (she's impossible to buy for, very fussy and doesn't really want anything).

Milliways · 03/12/2010 23:33

The Cliff Richard CD (her request) + a book & smellies etc (from us and kids so get a few bits)

indiechick · 03/12/2010 23:36

Oh bugger. I forgot about MIL. (We're not close).

cathers · 04/12/2010 03:53

A silver plated keyring with a drawing of her and grandad that my ds did. ( not flattering but very cute), and a nice cardy.

lizziemun · 04/12/2010 08:38

Joint present with FIL. Theatre tickets from here, so they can have a night out of their choice.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 04/12/2010 08:47

No idea. Forgot as we are not seeing her over Christmas.

I did the Good Housekeeping subscription one year which she liked but I found 3 unopened ones in a pile a year later! She is busy all the time so doesn't get much time to read them.

Anyone know if you can get nice hampers of goodies for diabetics? That might be an option.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 04/12/2010 08:52

LOL my MIL is lovely and very practical

She has asked for a digital room thermometer so she knows when the heating should be going on Xmas Grin

I will also throw in some homemade marmalade and biscuits, I can't just give her a thermometer, its wrong!

stnikkilarse1978 · 04/12/2010 09:00

These as she had some slipper boots but they got ruined somehow and she loved them

becaroodolf · 04/12/2010 14:56

Tickets for her and FIL to a show (joint gist)
Necklace (half price)
Marzipan fruits (she loves them....bluerrgh)

becaroodolf · 04/12/2010 14:56

"joint gift" Doh!

maryfarquhar · 04/12/2010 16:35

we are getting ours a ticket to see her sister in the US. She is going to be very happy, especially as she is flying back with sister who is coming to visit at xmas (she thinks she's babysitting for us to go away!)

Stinkyfeet · 04/12/2010 16:38

Gardening vouchers for her and FIL - they spend an absolute fortune in the spring planting veg and stuff, so it is very much appreciated.
