what would it be?

We're having a skint christmas and I want to make loads of christmassy foody things but just can't afford it.

So what is the one thing that will be worth the money and the effort?

We're having xmas dinner at my parents so we don't need to worry about that.

A cake I think, lasts for ages, is substantial and tasty, ypu can have it with cream or custard too.

Yes, definitely a cake.
If you use basics dried fruit, possibly not to expensive either.
Remember Chhristmas is not all about the money.

make individual christmas cake according to how much people like it. Only DH eats it here so he just buys a mini one and there is no waste!

we have skint xmas all year (it's a theme i follow thru the year Wink) and its not as dear as you think. buy freezable parts of your food from now if you can.

have never made a xmas cake - though in my collection of cook books i have plenty of recipes!

i know xmas isn't about the money but you need money for the ingredients to make lots of lovely foods! plus I want to try not to put on too much weight over xmas!

i love cooking and baking but i need to be careful as i easily get carried away!

I'd make a ham as this is the one thing I only have at Christmas and it wouldn't be christmas without one.

I wouldn't say cake. Nobody but my (now dead) gran ever seemed to like it that much Grin

I'd say a ham, too. Great with leftovers on Boxing Day.
