Just had to share, because DD (3y9m) has made me well up with happiness today. She wrote her Xmas list, it went like this:

Dear Santa

Plisihav (Please can I have I think)

tokit (walkie talkie, she calls them talkie talkies)
fown (phone)
joclt (chocolate - that's my girl Grin)
hats (hart necklace & bracelet)
buc (book)
tor (toothbrush apparently, she gave up on trying to sound that out!)
suet (sweets, though the thought of suet did make me laugh Grin)

Love DD xxx

She has known her letters for ages, but has only just recently started writing them. This is her first venture into writing words other than family names. She doesn't have the idea of sentences, but it was all surprisingly legible.
She asked me for help spelling Dear Santa and Love, the rest was all her own work. I'm especially impressed that she remembered to say Please. And I'm staggered that she has actually figured the words out phonetically with a fair degree of logic - I was seriously expecting a fairly random list of letters if anything at all.

She wants to post this one, but I'm really reluctant to part with it - I want to frame it!! It even has a very charming picture of Santa with a slightly demonic grin and rather hairy ears Grin

Awwwwwwwww!

photo copy it and send the photo copy Grin

I might just have to try that, at least it's all one colour, so she might not object to a photocopy.

My DCs always left their letters to Santa under the fire and the elves always collected them. Then a little elf would come and stay with us until after Christmas so he could make regular trips back and forth to Santa to keep him updated on who should be on the good list.

He still comes to stay although DCs are older and think Ive lost the plot. Grin

LOL at Xmas elf - nice idea! And you've just reminded me that we used to put or letters to Santa on the open fire for them to blow as smoke to the North Pole. We don't have an open fire, but maybe could work something around your idea of the Xmas elf. Thanks!

My lot wrote such pretty letters this year with all sorts glued to them that I culdn't bare to part with them so i put them in the envelope and addressed it with them watching and told them i'd post it it town the next day... it's now hidden so i can show them when they're older Grin

Well done her for a 3 year old.
We put letters up the chimney (never light the fire) and then drag them out all sooty once the kids have gone to bed.
I regularly phone Santa to update him on their behaviour (starting early November if I am getting desperate!) My friend also tells her son that the birds tell Santa what he has been up to. It works a treat as there always seems to be a bird somewhere.

SummerRain · 27/11/2010 19:02

The teacher in school told my two about elves and reindeer (Hmm) watching them on Santa's behalf and now dd has taken to checking corners and under beds for them regularily and throwing worried looks around the room when she's in trouble.

madwomanintheattic · 27/11/2010 19:03

just steam the envelope open once she's in bed, photocopy, pop the photocopy in the envelope and seal it back up, and let her post it tomorrow.

i thought everyone did that? Grin

deedee321 · 28/11/2010 12:36

What a clever girl, that is a very sweet list!!!

Zeeky · 28/11/2010 14:11
