I have bought my mum an Nintendo DSi. I want a teapot.

Mum asked us all to club together to get her and her DP a night away. We couldn't stretch to that so we got her afternoon tea at the ritz as a surprise instead.

For her birthday next week she is getting a stack of books, including Dawn French's novel and two CDs including the amazing Rumer one.

Tickets for 'We Will Rock You ' at the Millenium Centre in Cardiff.

Malachy's mum, you don't need lessons, uke is easy to learn from t'internet, what with free tab and Youtube demosGrin. What you should ask for though is an electronic tuner because they go out of tune like buggery.

malachysmum · 25/11/2010 22:37

ooh ta silk, i tried the t'internet, if you know of any particular teacher it would be good.

Silkstalkings · 26/11/2010 00:00

Step one:
How to make uke chord shapes (make sure the top right hand list is highlighted in Soprano C like most ukes.) Important ones to practise are E, Emin, A, Amin, C, G, D and F tips are holding the string down to the metal to get 4 clean, clear notes per chord (yes it will hurt a bit to begin with).

Step two:
Then visit Ukehunt to find tab to play recognisable songs.

Honestly, you'll be able to play something like Oasis within an hour. And when anyone complains about the annoying tinny sound, you buy them a uke and teach them and they will love itGrin. It's like tie-dye, the beauty is in the eye/ear of the creator.

Silkstalkings · 26/11/2010 00:02

oops, that should read 'make sure your finger tips are holding the string down'

I wanted money to buy a dress in teh sales for an awards do we're going to

DH has amde it clear he has chosen my present (not bought) and it isn;t that (needed new clothes due to weight loss)

No idea what it is but have put a bid on a dress on ebay.

My Mum has an Argos voucher which is what she asked for. Her and dad want a new CD player.

malachysmum · 27/11/2010 22:17

showed DH thread as in 'how good is mumsnet' silk gave me such good links.

As I have 4 mth old DS, it has been decided by DH it would be good for me to get out of the house for ukelele lessons - BRILLIANT!!

stilletoe · 28/11/2010 10:59

I'm hoping to get some ghd's for my hair and a locket, can't really think of anything else this year.
