School Xmas Fair - Chutney etc stall

We are looking at the pricing of stuff for our Xmas Fair and I would like to get an idea for what my fellow Mnetters would pay. I would like to try and make a bit more money this year(?!) but don't want people to moan or not buy anything because they think we are charging too much. I appreciate that there will be regional differences etc (I'm in Nottinghamshire btw) but would you pay £2 for a jar (200g)of homemade chutney?
And what do you pay for reindeer food - is 30p too much?

How much does your school charge for Santa - we are giving a choc santa/reindeer with offer of picture?

Having spent (happy) hours last weekend making mango and apple chutney at home, I would be more than happy to pay £2 for a jar - once it was too homemade, as I know the effort that goes into making one! Well done and good luck with your Xmas Fair!

mango and apple sounds nice - I've made Nigella's spicy apple.

The mango and apple chutney is VERY nice LoobyLou, I made 6 jars and we opened one,
I hope to keep the others for the Christmas Ham!

Mangos are cheap at the moment too so it helps keep the costs down.

Well I live in the same area as you and I would happily pay £2.00 for home-made chutnet (I have paid more)

I would happily pay £2 but I don't think other people would more like £1.50 so it's not really worth the effort. Reindier food can be sold for 75p to £1, 30p too low

just went to the nursery christmas fayre and paid £2.50 per child to see santa (present of felt tip pens and small bottle of bubbles included). would have prefered £2 but hey ho - would also have paid more since my 5 year old would not have taken no for an answer! reindeer food - depends how it's packaged to be honest. i'd say 50p at least if it's in a bag with the poem attached, more if the packaging is really christmassy. wouldn't know about home-made chutney, sorry!

We generally charge for Santa approx 2x the prie of the present. It has generally been £2 or £2.50.

Last few years the prize has been a selection box (Cadbury;s medium one from Poundland) & charge has been £2

I would definitely pay £2 - but here in London it would be more like £3+.

I just paid £3 for a visit with Santa (good activity book pressie though!) - and I would happily pay 50-75p for a bag of reindeer food.

We are charging 50p - 30p is far too low IMO.

I'm wrapping the reindeer food in some re-cycled tissue paper (so anal I always save it from presents) and then I've got some star patterned voile fabric from last year
bow and poem to attach so maybe 50p would be better.

£2.50 for Santa, going up this year after years at £2.

Don't know about chutney - we don't do that at ours.

We charge £1 for Santa (bag, lolly small gift). Would be an outcry if tried to charge much more as some families have 3 or more dc and gets very expensive for them. Plus the dc/family has less to spend elsewhere if too much goes on Santa. We basically go with Santa breaking even and Raffle makes the money (all donated prizes).

Chutney - sorry can't advise as I wouldn't buy/eat the stuff. But don't undercharge. It's home made and much nicer than shop bought (think how much a shop brought jar is for basic stuff!)
Then you factor in cost of ingredients and time spent making it and it's not unreasonable to charge at least £2.00 I would say.
Have same issue on cake stall. Someone prices the cakes then another lady always comes round and says 'not enough, charge more they're home made after all'. So we stick an extra £1 or £2 on and they always go!

Reindeer food - If you're jazzing them up in tissue paper and stuff then you can definitely charge at least 50p-£1. Kids don't care how much it costs in reality. Are you adding some glitter to the mix to help the reindeer spot it in the dark?
