I have an Amazon gift card and I want to spend it on a lovely recipe book for Christmas. This is my first Christmas with my lovely DH ever and I want it to be really lovely.

I have also found out that I am on jury service for the two weeks before so I am anticipating having a lot more time than normal in the evenings to potter around and cook.

What would you recommend? I love Nigel Slater and Nigella - is Feast any good? Not madly keen on Delia but know she is a stalwart of Xmas.

i dont know, celebrity chefs often make the food to posh and unchristmassy for me.

I tend to just look online for good gravy recipes or whatever

TBH, if you just want simple food then your best bets are Nigella or Delia.

I have both.

Nigella, as predicted is Christmas food porn and she makes me Envy at the fabulous photography and I want to eat everything in a huge bucket. (very possibly sticking my nose in the bucket to trough it)

Delia is Delia. She prisses around telling you how to slice a cherry tomato into 4 pieces for her mini-tartlet jobbies and is very headmistressy about it all.She also refers to herself as "we" throughout which is just a bit too La Thatcher for my comfort.
Still lots of fabby things to cook though, once you get past the "do this, put that there, are you listening to me!" approach of Delia.

Both of mine have been out and thumbed through often for a few weeks now, but Nigella is the woman for me, if I had to choose.

I think Nigella Christmas is better than Feast. It gives great cook ahead/freezing advice which will be perfect for you this year :)

Brill - thanks - it sound slike Nigella will win out. I can't stand being dictated to and feared that old Delia would drive me crazy.
