I am on the lookout for books to read to dd, who has just turned three, during December about Christmas. She doesn't really know anything except Father Christmas will be bringing presents.

Any suggesions much appreciated

Twas the night before christmas - there are lots of versions.

Stickman by Julian Donaldson (Stickman helps Santa when he becomes a Stuckman!)

I'm not religious but do you mean about the birth of Jesus etc?

We have several and ds gets them out every year.

I think his favourite is the one with the bell and the mice with he naughty cat who ends up with the bell as a present/collar - Jingle Bells by NIck Butterworth

www.amazon.co.uk/Jingle-Bells-Nick-Butterworth/dp/0006647626

I like the hedgehog with the red hat in the snow one. Has lovely velvet pieces in it to feel. PIcked that one up at a book sale at school - One Snowy Night by M Christina Butler & Tina Macnaughton

I was thinking of getting ds 3.8 The grinch that stole christmas.

Does anyone think this is a good book for his age?

Last year ds had the snowman which he was abit to young for imo he got abit bored so looking for something fun this year.

We have all those already mentioned, and they are much loved by my 3 DDs (2, 4 and 6 yo). We also have Blue Kangaroo's First Christmas and are onto her second copy of The Christmas Bear after the first one fell to pieces. There's this one, which we got with a CD included - DDs 2 and 3 have been listening to it almost every night for the last week. And who could forget Mog? We have more, but I'll stop there.........

I loooove this bit of Christmas - nothing beats cuddling up to my children on dark winter nights and reading them Christmas stories. And it's only during November and December, as DH confiscates all the Christmas stories in January and hides them till the next year Smile

I've bought Father Christmas needs a wee! for my recently potty-trained 3 year old. I think he's going to love it. It also has a CD narrated by Bernard Cribbins. Grin

My niece 3, loves Peppa Pig so am sending her the new Peppa Pig Christmas personalised book at www.penwizard.co.uk. They have a cute 'DD Saves Christmas' book too which I gave my DS few years ago.

My DS loves the Usborne Father Christmas book as he loves looking at what father christmas gets up to, we've already got this out now and have to read it every day. He is only 2 though.

DD likes...

Father Christmas/The Snowman
Lucy and Tom's Christmas (I love this and Shirley Hughes has a new one out called something like The Christmas Eve Ghost- looks lovely too)
The Jolly Christmas Postman
That's Not Santa
Stickman
The Christmas Stocking

Showaddywaddy · 15/11/2010 15:36

Oh and The Polar Express.

geordieminx · 15/11/2010 15:38

Santa needs a wee is quite amusing for children that age

At 3, DD loved this

In fact, she still loves it, and so does DS(7). They esp like the baby puking in it. Grin
