Sounds like you have her 'main' gift sorted, are you thinking about extra smaller gifts to go with it? Some DVDs to watch on her new tv, annuals/other books?

Ask her what she wants.

yeah good idea - its her birthday 2 weeks before xmas too so it makes it extra hard!!

One of my sisters has a birthday on 21st Dec. It is difficult to stop it running into xmas.

I have asked my 8 year olds and they really want those animated animal thingys. They are not getting them as we have real pets which they ignore, but perhaps it is something your dd might like?

From santa I've got some annuals (BOGOF on WH Smiths) and a few of the Wordsworth Children Classics which are really good for two quid each, chocolate and a couple of airfix models (which they prob won't do but I want to do them :) ) And will pick up a few arty bits to pop in as well. For their main present I managed to get a boxfull of G1 Transformers off of ebay in the summer.

Pretty much sorted for a change.

The Works have fabric paint pens & glass paint pens for £4.99 each for a nice set - I'm going to get my 8 y/o dd a set of each plus a plain white t-shirt & sort out some nice jamjars (obv. latter not part of present) & that will be her stocking sorted, plus entertainment for any quiet times over xmas.

We were going to get her a new bike as her main present as she's outgrown hers, but we have just got exactly the model she wants 2nd hand for about the same money as I can sell her old bike for so that's sorted!

Instead we're thinking to get her a desk for her room as her big present - anyone who knows where you can get nice kids desks online not too expensive, please let me know!

We're also getting her some Magic the Gathering cards (following helpful advice on here), but that's a bit specific & only because she already plays with friends.

She also wants a copy of the Sims computer game, which we'll pass on as a suggestion to g/ps.

Thanks for reminding me of The Works Takver. I have no suggestions for desks but am smiling wryly at the thought of your flat-pack xmas eve! I did it once with a trampoline, on my own (didn't realise they really really need two people). The nightmare is seared onto my memory.

Takver, we got DD a desk for her bedroom last year from Argos (£40 i think) its beech with pink drawers and she has absolutely loved it and used it loads!!

Grin fortunately DH is a genius at such things - if he were less busy he would make her one from scratch (he made me a beautiful oak bedside table/shelving unit last year) so I am relying on him.
