10 year old boys help please !

I need to buy christmas presents for 10 year old twin boys (and have much younger dds !) - for their much younger brother and sister I am getting character PJs and matching fleece blankets. So, are PJs considered a crap present to a 10 year old boy ? And if not, what would go with them ?

Sorry but clothes are definately not presents for 10 year old boys.
IME they consider that clothes are what you have to wear and it doesn't matter what they look like. My boys would have been if they opened a present containing pyjamas.

I wouldn't go with pjs either (and I have an almost 10 year old ds).

Tbh, it's quite a difficult age, as they have got to the stage where there aren't many toys they want.

Are they into stuff like Top Gear? There is loads of Top Gear merchandise around. Or if they are into football, maybe football books, annuals etc.

Mine also still likes Lego (the more complicated sets) but not all 10 year olds would be, so you may need to check with the parents.

I don't think pj's would be a good idea either.

How about Smiths or Argos gift vouchers?..May seem like a cop-out, but at least they can choose what they'd really want.

The problem with vouchers is that I am buying the younger 2 presents (3 & 6) so think present is probably better way to go.

I did lego last year adn suited one but not the other (a complicated story but they are in the process of being adopted into the family so last year was their first christmas with them - hence why I don't know them 'that' well despite knowing the younger ones !).

1 is into sciencey type things and 1 is into arty type things.

It depends how much you want to spend.

For No1 perhaps;
Guiness book of records
Kitchen science kit, not too advanced but one that allows "experiments" with ordinary stuff like vinegar and bicarb.

For No2perhaps;
Art attack type book - something that gives ideas for projects.
Good quality paints or crayons or oil pastels

My ds is 9 and loves those bakugan things. He'd be pleased with pj's if they were Spongebob though. He'd be pleased with anything Spongebob mind you

Cluedo for one, Monopoly for the other? (Especially themed sets, like The Simpsons).

Dr Who stuff?

Origami kits (look out for those books with supersize paper aeroplanes).

Gadgets, like wind up torches.

DVDs of films like The Karate Kid and The Last Airbender

(Or just ask parents whether they have PSPs, DSes or Wii, and what games they'd like).

very much depends on the 10yo. some are more grown up than others.

dvds, cds, tricks/gadgets etc (hawkins bazaar) vouchers for GAME, HMV, Book Vouchers, sports stuff...

I agree with Top Gear stuff, DVDs, any gucci gadgets (not in the fashion sense.....but 'cool'), any interesting fact books (they tend to have a particular interest in things at that age, like my oldest son loves the military so we got him a Sun cartoon-style book thingy about troops in Afghanistan and commentaries by Chris Ryan and all that....he loved that)

My 10yr old is a big Harry Hill fan, maybe a DVD of TV Burp?

He also like reading there is series of books by Anthony Horowitz that he loves, about a boy who is like james bond.

He actually does like clothes, but only if its Carbrini sports wear ( vom)

Struggling with DS1 too - he's requested a Wii/Playstation - we'll see if DH gets a Christmas bonus before we go down that route

So far have got him a Top Gear book (big fat one, not the annual as it seems too young), an iTunes voucher for his MP3 player, Bear Grylls book. Will get him some more Airfix too as he loves making planes etc.

He's had science kit type things in the past which have gone down well - making crystals and getting electric motors and light bulbs to work with foil and bits of wire etc.

My DS is 10. He loves The Simpsons, Top Gear, Mario (as in Nintendo character), crafty stuff (nice felt tips always go down well), his Wii, all gadget type things, sportswear, more complex Lego such as Technics. He likes Airfix Books he likes include Skullduggery Pleasant, the Young Bond, The Recruit series, The Windsinger and the The Mortal Engines series and any books by Marcus Sedgwick.

For his 11th birthday (in two weeks) and Xmas we are getting him Lego NXT (v expensive - his only birthday gift) and for Xmas he will have lots of little things linked to the stuff I've listed above - and a storage box for the expensive Lego!

wingdad - he has an older brother who is a metal-head....My 10-yr-old also introduced me to the joys of Wolfmother!
(he (the 10-yr-old) also loves the songs of Flight of the conchords and has a fairly broad Monty Python repertpoire too )

My DS has just turned 11 and loves his X-Box, any clothing with a "tick" on it, anything related to football, The Guinness Book of Records, "Weird Fact" books, Breo watches, fluorescent boxers, Lynx.....

He's not hugely arty but was recently given a book on how to draw stuff (cars, fish, people etc.) which went down well.

THanks all for the ideas. I'll have a look through. Actually, think the guinness book of records might be good for one.
