I knew somebody who would always put their tree up on the first of September every year, anybody beat that?

The weekend before Christmas here. We usually buy it a bit befire then as everywhere seems to sell out of decent trees really early but we leave it outside. Dd's birthday is the 23rd so as she gets older she will get to decide if she wants it up before her birthday or if she wants to wait until Christmas Eve.

CherryMonstersUnderTheBed · 31/10/2010 17:08

ours usually goes up the first weekend in dec, but my fake one has died a death, and we are getting a real one this year. its being delivered on the 8th of dec, so will prob be put up then and decorated over the next few days

notevenaghostie · 31/10/2010 17:20

A week or 10 days at the most here, tho I think that prolonging the excitemenet is really a bad idea so I guess I would do that.

However...

I have a colleague - he is male, single, childless, 26, and a statistician. Before he did stats, he was in a touring theatre company.

His went up on the first of October in his flat. He says that no-one really visits him there I was a bit Confused and then Biscuit

I think that's strange but I guess I couldn't say... I just said, as long as you are enjoying it...

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 31/10/2010 17:29

I loved having the Christmas tree up on my birthday. Made it extra special.

Ours goes up when I can't hold out any longer. December though.

They're selling Christmas trees in homebase atm. Real ones.

darcymum · 01/11/2010 15:44

Saw my first Christmas tree up today, it was in Tesco though. Company policy apparently, the tree goes up on the 1st November.

Usually a week before Christmas but may do it a bit earlier this year as DD is old enough to understand a little.

MiasmARGGG · 01/11/2010 15:52

1st of November! How depressing.

Ours usually goes up 1st December but I'm hoping to hold out a bit longer this year as want a real one :)

taffetawitchescat · 01/11/2010 16:44

Mid December here - the second Sunday normally. Love decorating the tree. For the first year ever, the decorations aren't in the loft, so I shall get them out and sigh at them a week before, I expect. When the DC are in bed. Grin

tyler80 · 01/11/2010 17:51

We normally put decorations up mid December but the tree doesn't go up until the 23rd - which is traditional in Denmark (OH is Danish) but was normal for my family growing up too.

It's getting harder and harder to buy a real tree that late though, last year I went round about 6 garden centres on the 21st and thought we were going to have to go without a tree Shock when I got found a potted tree from Wilkinsons half price.

Jojay · 01/11/2010 20:39

Well I've been putting Xmas trees up all day - and sparkly lights, gift boxes and ribbons and oodles of fake snow!

Next time you walk past a Debenhams and look in the windows, you can admire my handiwork - or that of my colleagues Grin

And yes, by Xmas I am heartily sick of the whole thing, having started so early.

Depends if we are here for Xmas.

This year we are staying home so I may put it up a bit later to make the whole time a bit special. Maybe 2nd weekend in Dec - if I can get DS to wait that long!

We are in Hungary and St Miklaus comes on Dec 6 so lots of people have their houses decorated for that but they put their trees up on Xmas Eve. So will put some stuff up for the 6th.

peasantgoneroundthebend4 · 02/11/2010 12:35

I win mines up already Oh should add it's up all year to

MaMoTTaT · 02/11/2010 12:39

I think I'm going to try and get on in time for the start of Advent (so 28th November) this year.........

That involves organisation though and plucking up the energy to carry it back through town as well Grin

usually it's about 1-2 weeks before Christmas - stays up until the 12th night

ethelina · 02/11/2010 12:40

I've always been a bit bah humbug and only allowed the tree to go up the weekend before and come down on boxing day or the day after.

This year though I will have a 3.5 month old boy to cater to. He wont care but DH is insisting on decorations and everything to go up a whole 2 weeks before christmas. Thought I could get away with it for one more year but perhaps not...

Tidey · 02/11/2010 12:40

DS's birthday is the week before Xmas so we wait til after that to do the tree otherwise it feels like his birthday is all suffocated under the weight of tinsel. Or something like that.

4andnotout · 02/11/2010 12:48

Usually we put it up the first weekend in December, however this year we may be moving before Christmas so everything depends on that.

peasantgoneroundthebend4 · 02/11/2010 12:55

Should add the tree that's up al year is outdoors about 15 foot tall

indoor one be up by the 1st December I love thebuild up to Xmas it comes down the 27 th

ilovesprouts · 02/11/2010 14:28

i put mine up on ist dec as its ds2 4th birthday

frogbumsmum · 02/11/2010 23:02

Our main tree goes up christmas eve, with everyone decorating it while I cook xmas dinner, family tradition, but all the others go up about 2 weeks earlier. Seriously alergic to real trees so have artificial ones Sad so make up for it by having one in each reception room and bedroom Smile

darcymum · 12/11/2010 14:49

Come on then, 12th November already, who's first?
