Understanding of Christmas ??

This has probably been done to death many times previously, so I apologise in advance, but I just would like to know at what ages your DC's got any understanding of what Christmas is?

Not in the religious sense, we are not in the slightest bit religious, but in the sense that they knew who Santa was, that you have to be well behaved (want to try and get this blackmail thing in as much as I can Grin) to get any presents.

We have done all our Xmas shopping already and it's all wrapped with little bows on. :)

DD is 2.7 and technically this will be her third Christmas even though she won't remember the previous ones.

I was really thinking this year she will understand but it seems not.

Maybe nearer the time we could take her to see the lights and trees etc and to see Santa and hope she gets it then but I was just wondering what ages or at what number Christmas your DC's got the gist

TIA

DS knows who Father Christmas is from last year, so we've started to explain that he will bring DS presents at Christmas.
I think we are going to leave the 'if you are a good boy' aspect to another year - he will only be 2 and 5 months at Christmas this year and can only really think as far ahead as tomorrow!

DD was roughly your DD's age last year and she was aware of who Santa was and that he brought presents - not sure that she got the 'good and naughty list' though!

She does have an older brother though (6) so that might have helped.
