If your Dc's 'know' do you put presents under the tree before the day?

Two of my three dc's 'know' and DS (7) suspects, obviously I'm not going to tell him, but I can't help wonder if it won't be easier when he does know. At the moment the presents only appear under the tree once the delivery has been made during the night. We end up having to wait for ages to be sure everyone's asleep etc. Once they all know what really happens do you put the presents around the tree in the days leading up to Christmas day or is that too tempting for them?

We put them under the tree anyway because DC have stockings from Father Christmas, everything else from, well, everyone else. They've never been tempted to sneak a peek early as far as I know...

webwiz · 28/10/2010 16:17

Nope Father Christmas still delivers all ours magically in the night (DCs will be 19, 17 and 14 this year).

Indith · 28/10/2010 16:18

Well mine are still too little to know but we are the same as Fallen, stockings are the only things from father Christmas, other presents are from real people. I love a tree with lots of presents round it in the lead up and all the poking and prodding and shaking and guessing.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 28/10/2010 16:18

When we were older my parents used to put ours under the tree in advance. Except mine, because I couldn't be trusted Grin

lollipopshoes · 28/10/2010 16:19

two of mine know and one suspects but I always wait till they're all asleep and do the whole "magic" bit.

Even though dp tells me I'm mad and we could just give the presents to them on the day

webwiz · 28/10/2010 16:22

Nooo lollipopshoes tell your DP that would be no fun Grin

lollipopshoes · 28/10/2010 16:24

not sure "fun" is in his vocabulary tbh Grin

Mine have known for years but I keep up the old traditions for my own sake I think. I go to great lengths to hide the presents but suspect they find some before the big day. I never put any pressies out until they are asleep, it's a long old wait waiting for two teenagers to fall asleep I can tell you. Hubby thinks I'm mad and says to just put them under the tree after they're wrapped. But I can't....until they leave home we will continue to pretend that the pressies arrive via Santa on Christmas Eve!!

I miis the days when they were little and really truly believed Sad

I am 39 and have never not had a stocking Shock I have extremely indulgent parents/DH. My stocking is still filled magically while I sleep BlushBlush

DurhamDurham · 28/10/2010 16:34

I have a stocking too, we deserve it so don't feel guilty!!

Indith · 28/10/2010 16:35

So is mine fallen, we all still have stockings and they are always filled at night. These days we all end up buying little things we think might be fun so you end up with my sister and I trying to sneak things into the parental stockings and them passing things over to dh for mine.

TheFallenMadonna · 28/10/2010 16:37

Ah, we did that pre DC. I remember my brother, sister and Dad staying, and all snaeking out to the landing to distribute stocking fillers. Was lovely!

Schroeder · 28/10/2010 16:42

Only stockings are from Father Christmas, we don't always put presents under the tree we used to put them on the toybox, but they are always put out overnight.

1234ThumbScrew · 28/10/2010 17:32

I have my parents staying for the first time ever on Christmas eve and plan to make them both a stocking and fill it. I'd love someone to do one for me, but it'll only happen if I hint with sledgehammer subtlety and that's not the same.

I used to love all the poking and shaking of the presents around the tree like someone else said - I'm almost hoping DS will tell me he doesn't believe any more. Only almost thought as it's likely to be the last year.
