I have bought some basic bits and pieces for ds for Christmas this year but not sure what to get him as a main present. What are this year's must haves for this age?

My Ds has just turned 6 and up to now i've got him an Electric Keyboard and an Mp3 player, Phillips do a good one with a mini video screen .

My DS got the same Pirate game from a table top sale and he quite likes it.

Bodiddly- as much as Ds loves club penguin, and it really engages him ( he thinks about it at other times too, makes up stories about it/plans what he's going to do when he's next allowed on), I think it's a pain in the bum. He is only allowed on for short bursts at the weekend because he gets so cross when it's time to turn it off! Plus he is always on at us for a membership (you don't have to pay to play) so he can access the members only features.
Having said all that, he absolutely loves it and what makes Xmas for me is seeing our dcs faces when they are opening their presents. So think he will be getting a 1 month membership from us and maybe others might do the same for when he can prove he's able to behave nicely where cp is concerned.

In my experience, all the children I know who like cp got introduced by school friends and were hooked very quickly! Sounds rather sinister, no Zammo McGuire overtones on cp though honest.

DS will be 5 in November. He is getting Maxi Micro scooter for his birthday to replace the Mini one he got for his 2nd birthday.
He is getting a 2nd-hand castle for Christmas that I paid £3 for at a car boot sale so that evens it up a bit - we don't tend to spend big money on presents [hsmile]

He will LOVE both

my ds is 5 and has asked for a playhouse. i think he means a kitchen like in ELC. tbh it is the first year he has known what he wants so it has made xmas shopping alot easier for me.

thanks everyone ... TheRedSalamander is Club Penguin something they can do on their own? Ds will be 5.10 at Christmas and is pretty good at reading ... just wondered whether it is something I would have to sit with him to do on the laptop? Also, is there plenty to do if you dont do the subscription? Is it just games etc? Sorry have heard of it but dont have a clue what it is!!!!

Imaginext always goes down well here - he's hankering after the new ocean carrier thing, but i'm thinking he'd like this bigfoot instead.

TheRedSalamander · 01/11/2010 21:32

Bodiddly yes they can do pits on their own. Some things need explaining but a lot of it is based on exploring the world of club penguin and I dread tinder this but I have on occasion had a small dabble myself and it's quite fun Blush. And yes there is plenty to do without the subscription, what the membership does is (I think) allow them to use the coins they "earn" through scoring points on various games to exchange for special puffles (penguin pets!) or penguin clothes and other special features. It's very sweet and non-threatening (even if ds1 is addicted!)

thank you ... maybe I should go on there and check it out myself.
