I didn't know there would be enough dinosaur teeth in the world to put one in every pack! Shock

How many dinosaurs have they found?

lissieloucifer · 17/10/2010 08:49

I know that there are rarer finds and that you cant get say a T Rex tooth for love nor money, and i doubt v much its a real one. but it was only a fiver and he will love it.

tbh, i think theyve found billions of "bit of dinosaur" the odd tooth or fragment of bone but whole dinosaurs are v v v rare. although a young girl (about 12) found a whole skeleton in 1911, and last year a man found a whole plesiosaur both on the jurassic coast... guess where we are going on hol next year Hmm

The Isle of Wight is also prime dinosaur territory - go to the beach where there are dinosaur footprints solidified in the stones!

We booked a guided fossil-hunting trip led by a paleontologist - he was great, patiently identified everything the kids in the group picked up, including the drain pipe section proudly carried over to him by DD. Lots of people found fossilised wood, but no bones that day.

lissieloucifer · 17/10/2010 21:42

oooh, that sounds fab! i grew up in much wenlock, shropshire and there is a part of wenlock edge which was always rich pickings for fossils. as kids we found loads. i took ds up a few months back and there were still loads"!

lissieloucifer · 17/10/2010 21:49

lol, reminds me of the episode of friends where rachel knocks over a dinosaur tooth and says "please dont be from a real dinosaur... yes, made in taiwan!"

Have you seen the 'dig a dinosaurs'? Where they can dig 'bones' out of a block of plaster brick and then put them together to make a dinosaur skeleton.

Messy, but hours of fun.

lissieloucifer · 19/10/2010 21:48

i bought him one of those when we were on holiday to do one rainy day.. twas fab!

OP posts:
TrinityRhino · 19/10/2010 21:52

surely it cant be real though

and if it not real then its not as fun is it??

ignore me, I know nothing about dinosaurs

lissieloucifer · 19/10/2010 21:55

ah, but imagine as a five year old sitting in your bedroom on christmas morning, wearing dinosaur pj's, surrounded by dinosaur posters, cuddling your toy t rex and being absolutely convinced that you have in your hand a real dinosaur tooth.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 19/10/2010 21:56

Wouldn't it be more fun to bury it in the garden and "accidentally" dig it up than put it in the stocking?

I mean, do elves go around looking for dinosaur bones? Confused Were there ever dinosuars at the North Pole?

lissieloucifer · 19/10/2010 21:58

oooh, thats an idea... we could put among the reindeer food!

before reindeer, anklyosaurus's were the ones who pulled the sleigh you know [hwink]

VERY cool!

PortBlacksandsDoppelganger · 19/10/2010 22:00

Didn't those big clubby tails get in the way? Grin

Have you ever been to the dinosaur place at Colwyn Bay Lissie? The models are truly terrible - gaudy coloured and prob 'all wrong' but it is very entertaining and my two DSs loved it when they were 5.

lissieloucifer · 19/10/2010 22:04

isnt it expat? im so pleased with it.

portblacks, We are hoping to go next year. he will adore it. we had parents evening today and his "art" book was just full of dinosaurs, no regard for colour etc! and the tails did get in the way, thats why god invented reindeer [hgrin]

geraldinetheluckygoat · 19/10/2010 22:07

My ds will love this too! I am going to get him one!

DaftApeth · 20/10/2010 09:37

How about burying/hiding (esp if the ground is frozen!) it in the garden and leaving a map in his stocking?

Ds also has a beddy bear triceratops. It's very cosy and soft.

lissieloucifer · 20/10/2010 09:58

oooh, thats fab! mil is buying him a metal detector so he could use that to find it!

OP posts:
lissieloucifer · 20/10/2010 09:59

i did consider getting him a pteradon tooth (thats his favourite) but it was a tenner, plus p&p

OP posts:
