we have tacky, sorry not up to your standard

We have a tree and a few small decorations dotted around. I have great mwemories of x-mas as a child, my mum used to go way over the top with tinstle, baulbles and baloons, i prefere minimal nice decorations. I'm still looking for a nativity set that is child friendly (un-breakable).

LadyCad · 16/10/2010 23:13

Marne, these are good. (The close up doesn't show the whole set).

We've had ours for 3 years and they've been played with lots.

we dont have ceiling decorations (pins wont go into it - ive tried) but i have allsorts of decs on my walls that i have collected over the years, ive got loads of christmassy ornaments, candles and standing santas etc. My fave buy from last year is a large standing snowman from matalan. I love christmas.

thisiswhataluv · 17/10/2010 08:05

marne i lived with my gps when i was younger and the house was also done way over the top
decorations, streamers,"merry xmas and a happy new year" banners, plastic santas stuck on the doors, spray snow on the windows, and the tree was just as bad lol tinsle of every colour, baubles every shape, colour and size were plonked on, and we had this awful fairy i reckon it was from the 70s (looked quite hippyish Grin) but i loved it back then Grin christmas is never the same as when you were a child Sad

M&S have some large paper decs this year which would be good for hanging from the ceiling. Or you could get your dc to make lots of paper snowflakes. Or paperchains.

I use lots of winter foliage too, hang bunches on newel post & pinned to doors

bigTillyMint · 17/10/2010 18:12

Marne, I got an ELC plastic nativity set when the DC were really tiny. They still love it now and they are 11 and 9 1/2 Grin

various handmade that yr decorations about the place by kiddies

this yr hopefully some lights around the porch outside

ja9 · 17/10/2010 23:25

oh and c'mas wreath on front door. i love them...

BatBrainsPumpkinHead · 17/10/2010 23:30

cinomon sticks hung over the radiators so that the house smells lovely
Christmas tree
Chains around ceiling
paper chains/snow flake type decorations made by ds.
candles
advent ring
nativity scene
mini christmas electric trin set.

TBH the house is full of decorations but they are colour coordinated (with the exception of child contributions) As much as there are decorations my afavourite bit has to be the cinamon on the radiator. it smells like christmas.

ja9 · 18/10/2010 10:42

love the cinnamon idea. gonna copy!

BudaisintheZONE · 18/10/2010 11:47

Christmas tree
Lots of lights
Lots of red candles
Stickers on the windows
A table full of various Father Christmas figures of various sizes
A shelf with various Xmas tree figures
A woven small tree with some lights on top of a cupboard
Have bought some paper chains from Cox and Cox to make with DS and hang around the study
Xmas mugs
Xmas serving dishes and plattters

I have enough decorations for three different themed trees Blush but will only put one up I think.

I love Xmas!

InGodWeTrust · 18/10/2010 19:37

I hate anything Santa, or snowman or reindeer. So it's a tree with beads (no tinsel, it's tacky) I stud oranges with cloves and wrap them in ribbon and hang them in various places...We live in the countryside so I sent dh out to get holly and fir cones and we spray them gold and silver. We have a nativity in the hall way. I like the idea of large baubles...perhaps I'll invest in some.

I really hate transfers for windows.

roundthebend4 · 18/10/2010 19:46

erm everything is tack and over done but the kids love it

And this year we have a large outside xmas tree that were hunting for lights for
