Salt dough recipe and decoration

I am 37 wks pregnant, stuck indoors this weekend (due to painful SPD and getting over heavy colds) with a bored toddler and thought it would be a good way to pass the time.

What recipe do you use?

What do you use to decorate? I was thinking paint, glitter (what sort of glue should I use) and then varnishing (what varnish?)

Appreciate all advice and any other suggestions as to what we can make! Smile

I would like to know, too. I've never made salt dough but I bet my 4yo would love to make some decorations.

When I have done it in the past I have used half salt/half plain flour measurement with a handful of wall paper paste thrown in. Bit of water to form into a dough.

I used watercolour and poster paints. PVA glue. I went to Hobbycraft and got some varnish.

I made christmas tree decorations, little wreaths, christmas puddings, etc using a drinking glass as the template for the circle.

Take the pen bit out of a biro and the empty tube bit is the perfect size for making holes for threading ribbon through.

Fow wall plaques, normal hair clips stretched open slightly make great hangers.

Garlic crushers make fab hair for mermaids or beards for Father Christmas.

Heat oven very low and allow to bake for several hours if possible.

I stored Christmas decorations in kitchen towel in a tin and they lasted for several years.

I have purchased alphabet cutters for the purpose of making HAPPY CHRISTMAS garland thingy to hang on our fire place, and JESUS letters for my daughter's Sunday School class to paint!
