Making Christmas special for DC with new baby

I am expecting DC2 on 13th Dec and want to make Christmas really special for my 3 yr old. I would like a really exciting and festive lead up to the big day and want him to look forward to the new baby and it being part of the celebrations.
We have my mum, her partner and my 2 siblings here for xmas day too.
I would really appreciate any thoughts/ ideas.

I have a friend who filled his toddlers' bedroom with balloons on Christmas morning for when they woke up... they are now in their teens and still remember waking up with all the balloons!

Awww .. ds2 was born on 11th Dec when ds1 was 2.10. It's a great time of year to have a baby!

Ds1 was quite impressed by the idea that the Jesus-baby was born on Christmas day and look, we've got one too!

And ds1 and dd both bought presents to give to the baby (who was unimpressed, being asleep).

But you know, tiny babies are pretty boring. Ds2 slept almost all day and I paid lots of attention to the other two. That's all they really want, your attention.
