Plenty of monthly magazines do a Christmas edition.

lucysmam · 08/10/2010 21:01

I was thinking one that's just xmas. What's good for xmas section?

Haven't bought a mag in ages & don't want to buy something rubbish that I'll not enjoy

Yes it's called the Lakeland catalogue Grin

whomovedmychocolate · 08/10/2010 21:06

Seriously BBC Good food does a christmas issue as does good housekeeping.

scurryfunge · 08/10/2010 21:08

Good Housekeeping is quite good at Xmas, Ideal Home, House Beautiful are also ok.

lucysmam · 08/10/2010 21:11

Ooh, think I'll browse in Tesco before I buy anything!

wmmc, I've been browsing Lakeland online, thinking about a trip to York for a wander round (& take dc's to Railway Museum too)

lucysmam.... I used to buy all the Christmas editions of all the mags I liked every year (Good Housekeeping/Living/Good Food etc etc) but then realised that rarely was there anything new in there. Well worth going to your local library and looking at Christmas books - I honestly think you'd find most of the same stuff in there !)

CDMforever · 08/10/2010 21:22

I know what you mean lilo. Yet I still feel compelled to buy Good Housekeeping, Good Food etc every christmas. Its a bit like the tradition of only ever buying Radio Times at Christmas and never, ever, ever TV Times (how cheap and tacky).

lucysmam · 08/10/2010 23:09

There's never anything decent in our local library lil but I'll have a look around some of the others I live close-ish to over the next few weeks.

Will still treat myself to a mag though, I haven't had one for ages & fancied one I might get something useful out of as well as a half decent read

There's a Christmas Shop in St Andrews that is open all year round. I have forced cajoled DH to make the 2 hour drive there 3 times this month so that I can buy shite buy beautiful things for my house

tulpe · 09/10/2010 01:02

Good Housekeeping is the last word in Christmas prep as far as I am concerned :) Always buy from October - December without fail.

SeriousWispaHabit · 09/10/2010 07:41

I bought a magazine yesterday called 'the Christmas magazine'. It's quite good, although not convinced that 'vegetarians will just love sprout pate' Hmm

lucysmam · 09/10/2010 09:24

Where was that from SeriousWispa? What kind of stuff's in it?

Will take dd to town through the week if we can get it from somewhere there

& maybe Good Housekeeping too

The Prima Christmas issue is out 28th Oct. Essentials has a 20 page section in the Nov edition (out now) of recipes and crafts for Christmas.

Seriouswispa, the only recipe for sprouts that attracted me was from Anton Mosimann the chef, he was on a tv prog years ago, when he was head chef at the Dorchester. He finely shredded the sprouts and stir fried them with pancetta, then added salt, pepper and grated nutmeg, and finished with cream. Even his children ate them.
