I've been 2 years in a row - loved it. Shame was last year was SO cold and there isn't really anywhere indoor to eat, they may have sorted that now. We spent all day there hanging out drinking hot choc and the kids loved it both times (aged 1,3,4)..Well worth a visit!

We went a couple of years ago on DDs 1st birthday and it wasn't quite what I expected, though why I'm not sure.

They had an area with fair ground rides etc, a couple of marquees where you could buy food (not that great and not enough seating) and a smallish U-shaped area made up of a few german market stalls (my memory says about 7 or so).

roundthebend4 · 07/10/2010 14:28

seating not to bad ds has his own seat so
not issue Wink
and were planning the circus and the big wheel as treat .Im just waiting to here if friend wants to come if not will cheat book midweek as sure be bit quiter and will sell it to dd school as special day and ds school wont mind long as brings back pictures

I found it hugely money grabbing, everything was so expensive, and they made me go on the carousel to stand beside ds2 (2 yrs) and charged me for the pleasure.

I wouldn't do it again, am going to stick with skating at the National History Museum as our christmas treat.

OhCobblers · 07/10/2010 21:49

went last year and i expected it to be more like a traditional Christmas Market, ie, lots of stalls / shopping.
but i found it to be mostly about the funfair and food stalls which is great if you're hungry but not if you wanted to shop Grin

roundthebend4 · 07/10/2010 22:51

argh just want to do something fun for xmas with the dc ice skating out as ds is in wheelchair

any ideas then for dd age 7 and ds age 5 but who is in a wheelchair

I was disappointed. We went last year for the first time. We travelled down from Birmingham and met family there. I thought that everything was very overpriced and I hated that there was nothing to do that was free. No events, just loads and loads of stalls. MONEY MONEY MONEY.

Also atrocious was eating - there wasn't anywhere to get anything decent to eat - the most meal-like thing you could get was fish and chips and there was nowhere to sit to eat it.

roundthebend4 · 08/10/2010 17:36

Was father Xmas any good at all? Were planning the circus and the big wheel were fortunate as only 20 minute train ride to London then will grab bus to Hyde park

I was planning to take ds there too this year but am having 2nd thoughts now.

londonmackem · 08/10/2010 20:48

The market next to the ice rink at Natural History museum is nicer.

It's Ok at Hyde Park but wouldn't go to any real effort to go.

roundthebend4 · 08/10/2010 21:09

is it just a shopping market Londonmackerm , not really going to shop more for ds3 and dd.

We didn't go to father christmas - we went on the Severn Valley rWay instead last year.

I imagined that there would be more to do - craft things, more playgrounds, activities. Half of it was just a cheap tacky funfair. The rest was just stalls - a row of about 6 different stalls which were then repeated - so say that there are 200 stalls - it's not 200 different stalls, there are 10 german sausage stalls, 10 pretzel stalls etc etc. I thought that they would have poeple dressed up as elves running around and amazing decorations, that there would be places to sit and decent food.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/10/2010 13:58

Is the circus going to be Zippos?
