Christmas films - what are the must haves?

I've just tried to round up my Christmas films, so that they can be stored elsewhere, and realised that I have hardly any!

I have:

Muppets Christmas Carol
The Snowman and Father Christmas
Santa Claus The Movie
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Hogfather
Gremlins1&2

That's it - it's woeful!

I've got a few films that I always watch around Christmas time - The Princess Bride, Mary Poppins etc, but I'd like some more Christmas classics.

What are your favourites?

: Mickeys Christmas Carol
: Scrooge 1951
: Orginal Hoilday Inn
: Wizard of Oz
: While you were Sleeping
: Serendipity
: The madagascar penguins: christmas caper
: A Christmas Story
: Jack Frost Michael Keaton One
: Enchanted Christmas ( Beauty & the Beast)
: The Family Stone

and quite sad but good : Joyeux Noel

I love The Polar Express, always makes me feel christmassy so may have to watch that one with the kids on Christmas eve. Others are:

Scrooged
Family man (brilliant film)
Nightmare before Christmas
Elf (amazing and funny, so very christmassy too and always leaves me with a lump in my throat and tear in my eye at the end)

I'm sure there are more, can't think now though due to massive horrid flu/cold thing I have.

I think ours have been covered by BabyDubsEverywhere! Ours is very similar. I LOVE Xmas films so we have them all and I am itching to get watching them again already.

Also is I'll be home for Christmas, Merry Madagascar, if they haven't been mentioned!

mmmmmchocolate · 05/10/2010 10:27

I love Christmas with the kranks, I always start the build up to Christmas by reading the book first. Polar express is just magical I'm hoping DD1 (3) will watch it with me this year :)

ShowOfHands · 05/10/2010 10:38

Other people have the weird DM Rudolph one? DH's grandma gave it to dd and I cannot bear it. DD loves it. The one with the teddy bear who is stealing toys?

I love the Scrooge with Albert Finney in it. And Shrek The Halls, Polar Express, the Grinch.

I've never seen It's A Wonderful Life. Blush

FingonTheValiant · 05/10/2010 11:19

Oh I used to love Mickey's Christmas Carol, my grandparents had it - must find a copy of that!

I'll be avoiding all reindeer based films I think, just in case...

Joyeux Noel is lovely, I got it for my dad last year - war movie enthusiast!

Oh, I can add the Madagascar penguins to my "have" list, I forgot that one, and I love it!

BabyDubs that list is super, thanks so much!

Oh, I forgot the Shrek and Madagascar ones. Yep, them too Grin

SoH, scarily that is not my weirdy Rudolph one. Mine has voices of famous people but crap animation and is really weird. About an ice queen who says getorfmyland and homophobic daddy reindeers. It's a keeper.

FoundWanting · 05/10/2010 20:37

DCs love 'Grounded' about children stranded by snow at an airport. They all get together against the anti-Christmas airport manager. There is also a sub-plot of one of the dads trying to get to the airport to collect his off-spring.

Once was enough for me, but they watch it again and again.

CDMforever · 05/10/2010 21:35

Serendipity is a gorgeous xmas film.
All time fave for adults has to be Its Wonderful Life and for children Polar Express. And the Snowman, just wish it was a bit longer!
One of my many xmas traditions is to wrap my pressies whilst watching Love Actually with a cup of tea and loads of shortbread....

ShirleyKnot · 05/10/2010 21:38

ELF

and

It's a Wonderful Life

The End. THese are the only christmas films you will ever need.

We watch "It's a Wonderful Life" every single christmas eve. It's just amazing.

lazycow007 · 05/10/2010 22:04

I watched Serendipity the other night when it was on the box - love that film too and can watch it any time same with Family man too.

Can't believe no one has mentioned The Snowman before CDM, totally forgot about that perfect epitome of a Christmas film.

huffythethreadslayer · 05/10/2010 22:08

I'm a Wonderful Life kind of girl. Also love the tacky Santa Claus movies, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street (old and new) and Scrooged. Love any old Christmas movie. Tacky but totally blingtastic Christmas fun :)

ohforfoxsake · 07/10/2010 11:55

HMV have some stupidly cheap Xmas DVDs (£2.97) with free delivery. I've ordered Raymond Briggs Father Christmas. I loved the book when I was little.

wfrances · 07/10/2010 14:51
