Yes, its a long way away... but letters to santa - when?

frankly i dont care if im jumping the gun. we are on a v tight budget this year. dh is out of work and im unable to work so i am having to buy early (although i usually start earlier than this) so ds gets the pressies he wants.

when do you write the letters to santa though? surely you need long enough to find and buy the presents, but you dont want to start ramping them up too early otherwise he they will be raging mess of hyperactivity by the time the festive season is actuallyt upon us.

Never too early to talk Christmas Lissie.

I've started to ask the dcs what they want from Father Christmas a couple of weeks ago.

Ds is easy, he still wants the present he didn't get last year (HM armed forces night vision goggles - couldn't let myself spend £100 on such shite. Am now feeling guilty ). Dd (11) getting harder so need that extra time.

They'll have a fair idea over the next few weeks what they want and usually get them to write letters in November. But have so far been lucky and not had any major surprises - although there's always something on the list they've never mentioned .

I buy throughout the year too if I see a bargain. I certaintly couldn't afford to do it in one big shop.

I have also started asking DS (5) what he wants so I am not in for any shocks lol.

I have told him the mummies tell santa early so he can get everything ready

Then when he writes his letter in Dec I can coach help him

i too have been gently steering him towards certain things. got a call from the disney store today re some things i want to order and told ds that i was speaking to one of santa's elves. although a little boy in his class has told him that santa doesnt exist

I am dreading DS being told that Santa doesn't exist

I think he is still at the stage where he would believe me over his school friends

I have no idea what to get him this year though....
